Treatment of hypertension in old patients without previous cardiovascular disease
Conclusion: Blood pressure levels lower than those currently recommended are not harmful among older patients. The association between lower SBP and lesser risk of CVD may instead suggest a beneficial effect of lower SBP.

Blood pressure levels and risk of cardiovascular disease mortality among Japanese men and women: the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study for Evaluation of Cancer Risk (JACC Study)
Conclusion: BP categories at baseline were linearly and positively associated with CVD mortality overall and also among participants not taking antihypertensive medication. A higher risk of mortality from CVD was observed among patients already treated for hypertension with optimal and normal BPs than those with high-normal BP, suggesting the importance of careful monitoring of BP and comorbidities of such patients.

A retrospective study of arterial stiffness and subsequent clinical outcomes in cancer patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Conclusion: Atherosclerosis is advanced and accelerated in patients with malignancy, and these patients had significantly higher rates of adverse cardiovascular events, and their risk might be stratified by ABI and baPWV. High SBP trajectories are associated with risk of all-cause death in general Chinese population
Conclusion: High SBP trajectories are independent risk factors for all-cause death. Our findings suggest increasing SBP trajectories within the currently designated ‘normal’ range may still increase risk of all-cause death.

A stop-codon of the phosphodiesterase 11A gene is associated with elevated blood pressure and measures of obesity

Genetic variation in NEDD4L, an epithelial sodium channel regulator, is associated with cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular death
Conclusion:The NEDD4L salt sensitivity-associated genotype was associated with higher blood pressure, which may translate into increased risk for CVD morbidity and mortality. Interestingly, there was no association with stroke suggesting that the association is partially blood pressure independent.

Long-term alcohol consumption is an independent risk factor of hypertension development in northern China: evidence from Kailuan study
Objective:The purpose of the present study was to determine the impact of alcohol consumption on the incidence of hypertension.
