Effects of a lower limb rehabilitation robot with various training modes in patients with stroke: A randomized controlled trial
Background: The effect of robot-assisted gait training has been demonstrated to improve gait recovery in patients with stroke. The aim of this study was to determine effects of robot-assisted gait training with various training modes in patients post stroke. Methods: Forty-seven patients post stroke were randomly assigned to one of 4 groups: Healbot T with pelvic off mode (pelvic off group; n = 11); Healbot T with pelvic control mode (pelvic on group; n = 12); Healbot T with constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) mode (CIMT group; n = 10); and conventional physiotherapy (control group; n = 10...

A nomogram for individualized prediction of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis in stroke patients: A retrospective study
In this study, 423 stroke patients admitted to the Rehabilitation Medical Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from December 2015 to February 2019 were taken as the subjects, who were divided into the DVT group (110) and No-DVT group (313) based on the existence of DVT. Inter-group comparison of baseline data was performed by 1-way Analysis of Variance, Kruskal-Wallis rank-sum test, or Pearson chi-square test. Data dimensions and predictive variables were selected by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO); the prediction model was developed and the nomogram was prepared by ...

Screening for unilateral aldosteronism should be combined with the maximum systolic blood pressure, history of stroke and typical nodules
To determine factors associated with lateralization in primary aldosteronism (PA). The clinical data for PA patients hospitalized at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from October 2016 to March 2021 were included in this study. They were classified according to results derived from computed tomography (CT): bilaterally normal nodules (no typical nodules were found in either adrenal glands, only changes in unilateral adrenal hyperplasia thickening or bilateral adrenal hyperplasia thickening), unilateral nodules (typical nodule appears in unilateral adrenal gland, and there are no abnormalities in t...

Effect of traditional Chinese medicine-based rehabilitation nursing combined with scalp acupuncture on negative emotions and quality of life of patients with stroke: A randomized controlled trial
This study aimed to analyze the effect of traditional Chinese medicine-based rehabilitation nursing combined with scalp acupuncture (TCMRN + SA) on negative emotions and the quality of life of patients with stroke. Methods: 102 patients with stroke admitted to The First People’s Hospital of Huzhou from September 2019 to December 2020 were included in this study using the convenience sampling method and split into an observation group and a control group at random (n = 51 in each group). Individuals in the control group received TCMRN, whereas patients in the observation group received TCMRN + SA. Furthermore, the ...

The effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on large neurogenic heterotopic ossification in a patient with pontine hemorrhage: A case report and literature review
We report a case of a 36-year-old man who developed HO around both hip joints 3 months after bilateral pontine hemorrhage. Interventions: Seven months after HO development, ESWT was administered to the area of HO every other day for a total of 10 sessions. Outcomes: Immediately following treatment, the ROM of both hip joints increased. Thus the patient was able to maintain a sitting posture without having to be bound to the wheelchair. In addition, the tolerable sitting time before groaning increased from less than ten minutes to almost 60 minutes by the end of all ESWT sessions. Unlike other previous reports...

A Chinese female patient with LGI1 and mGluR5 antibodies: A case report
We present a case of AE with dual seropositive antibodies of LGI1 and mGluR5 in a 65-year-old woman who presented with sudden onset left faciobrachial dystonic seizures and unresponsive for 5 hours. Diagnosis: The patient was diagnosed with anti-LGI1 AE and anti-mGluR5 AE mainly based on the clinical symptoms and further test of the antibody in serum and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). Interventions and outcomes: The patient was treated with glucocorticoid intravenous drip. We also gave her the therapy of immunoglobulin (25 g q.d) for 5 days and anti-epileptic therapy. She had no more convulsions on the left s...

The downward referral experiences of stroke caregivers in the regional medical alliance in China: A phenomenological study
The downward referral platform in the regional medical alliance has provided more possibilities to follow-up rehabilitation and transitional care for increasing stroke survivors, which also has the most contributions in the rational use of resources and health promotion of stroke survivors. However the downward referral rate is low compared to upward referral. At present, no scholars have explored the downward referral experiences of medical demanders from the perspective of qualitative study, and these experiences may also most truly reflect the influencing factors of their unwillingness to downward referral. Therefore, t...

Effectiveness of hospital-based low intensity and inspected aerobic training on functionality and cardiorespiratory fitness in unconditioned stroke patients: Importance of submaximal aerobic fitness markers
Introduction: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of low-to moderate intensity aerobic training on cardiorespiratory functions in chronic unconditioned stroke patients. The oxygen uptake efficiency slope (OUES) and the ventilatory threshold (VO2-VT) could represent the aerobic capacity in submaximal test. Our study examined the application of the submaximal parameters for evaluating aerobic capacity of chronic stroke patients. Materials and methods: In our assessor-blinded controlled pilot study 37 patients were randomized into 2 groups named: intervention group (IG, n: 21) and control gro...

Efficacy and safety of dual antiplatelet therapy after percutaneous coronary drug-eluting stenting: A network meta-analysis
Conclusions: S-DAPT + P2Y12 has the lowest bleeding risk, while L-DAPT has the highest bleeding risk. In the outcome of MI, stent thrombosis, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular adverse events, L-DAPT has the best efficacy. In the outcome of stroke and all-cause mortality, the 4 interventions were equally effective.

Effects of tissue plasminogen activator on medium-term functional independence: A propensity score-matched analysis
This study revealed the effects of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) on medium-term functional independence in patients with stroke. We retrospectively examined 240 patients from April 2016 to March 2019 and selected 68 who met our criteria. After adjusting the functional status at the onset by propensity score matching, the functional independence measure (FIM) on admission to and discharge from the convalescent rehabilitation wards was compared between the groups classified by the presence or absence of tPA. Twelve pairs were derived by propensity score matching. Upon admission to the convalescent rehabilitation ward, t...

Carotid body tumor encounters over a two-decade period in an academic hospital
Carotid body tumors (CBTs) are rare and mostly benign. Research outcomes usually arise from single-center data. We conducted this study to present the characteristics and outcomes of patients who underwent surgical resection of CBT at our hospital over the past 20 years. In this retrospective review, the records of CBTs in our hospital were reviewed between 1998 and 2021. All patients who underwent CBT resection were included. The follow-up period was 12 months. A total of 44 CBTs were treated in our hospital. The male-to-female ratio was 1:2.4. Only 4.5% of patients had Shamblin I tumors. Patients with Shamblin II and III...

Aerobic exercises and cognitive function in post-stroke patients: A systematic review with meta-analysis
Conclusion: Aerobic exercise has a good impact on enhancing the cognitive dysfunction of patients after stroke, which stroke patients were found to benefit the most from moderate-intensity exercise. However, our studies did not found that aerobic exercise had an active result on cognitive flexibility, working memory, selective attention and contention resolution.
