d-dimer and diffusion-weighted imaging pattern as two diagnostic indicators for cancer-related stroke: A case–control study based on the STROBE guidelines
The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors and elucidate the clinical characteristics of cancer-associated ischemic stroke to differentiate it from conventional ischemic stroke in China and East Asia. Between June 2012 and June 2016, a retrospective analysis was performed on 609 stroke patients with cancer. They were divided into 3 groups: cancer-stroke group (CSG, 203 cases), stroke group (SG, 203 cases), and cancer group (CG, 203 cases). The d-dimer levels and diffusion-weighted imaging lesion (DWI) pattern were compared to an age- and sex-matched control group. The most common cancer types were colorectal ca...

Higher stroke incidence in the patients with pancreatic cancer: A nation-based cohort study in Taiwan
No study has investigated the role of pancreatic cancer in the stroke risk using population data. We used claims data obtained from a universal health insurance program of Taiwan to evaluate the stroke risk in pancreatic cancer patients. From the catastrophic disease registry of the insurance, we identified 7479 patients with pancreatic malignancy without stroke history from 2000 to 2009. The comparison cohort consisted of 29,916 individuals identified from 1 million insured people without cancer and stroke history, matching with the cancer cohort by propensity score. We followed each selected individual until stroke was ...

Cerebral ischemic events in patients with pancreatic cancer: A retrospective cohort study of 17 patients and a literature review
Abstract: Stroke is a dramatic complication of pancreatic cancer with mechanisms related to oncological disease. A better description of the characteristics of cerebrovascular events would help better understand the pathogeny and protect vulnerable patients. We thus conducted a descriptive analysis of clinical, biological, and radiological features of patients from our centers and literature. We reviewed consecutive cases of patients who presented cerebrovascular events and pancreatic cancer in 4 stroke units in Lorrain (France) between January 1, 2009 and March 31, 2015, and all reported cases of literature. We identifie...
