Incidence, Risk Factors and Anatomy of Peripersonal Visuospatial Neglect in Acute Stroke
Conclusion: PVN has a low incidence in the acute stroke settings and there is no particular predictor of its presence. It is most often associated with temporo-parietal lesions.Eur Neurol 2016;75:157-163

Prestroke Antiplatelet Agents in First-Time Ischemic Stroke Are Related to Subtypes
Background: It is not well known whether prestroke antiplatelet agents (PAs) are associated with the subtypes of ischemic stroke. Methods: We screened patients in a hospital-based stroke registry. Patients who were admitted with a diagnosis of first-time ischemic stroke within 5 days of symptom onset were included. Ischemic stroke subtypes were classified in accordance with the Trial of ORG 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment classification based on stroke mechanism: large-artery atherosclerosis (LA), cardioembolism (CE), small vessel occlusion (SVO), other determined (OC) or undetermined causes (UC). Multinomial logistic regr...

Sleep Disturbances at 3 Months after Cerebral Infarction
Background: Post-stroke sleep disturbances (PSSD) are common and associated with various adverse outcomes. However, PSSD in the sub-acute stages of stroke have been scarcely studied. We aimed to evaluate the characteristics of and the factors related to PSSD in stroke patients 3 months post stroke. Methods: A total of 199 patients were evaluated for PSSD at 3 months after stroke. The qualities of nighttime sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) were assessed using the Verran Snyder-Halpern sleep scale and Epworth Sleepiness Scale, respectively. Presence of motor dysfunction and post-stroke pain, post-stroke depressio...

Impact of Mechanical Thrombectomy on the Organization of the Management of Acute Ischemic Stroke
Background: Several trials and meta-analyses have recently demonstrated the superiority of endovascular therapy over standard medical treatment in patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke. In order to offer the best possible treatment to a maximum number of patients, many stroke care networks probably have to be reorganized. After analyzing the reliability of data in the literature, an algorithm is suggested for a pre-hospital and in-hospital alert system to improve the timeliness of subsequent treatment: a drip-and-ship approach. Summary: Five recent well-designed randomized studies have demonstrated the benefit of ...

Acute Stroke Syndromes with Isolated Hypoperfusion on MRI - A Clinical and MRI Study
Conclusion: TTP maps are highly sensitive to demonstrate even small-scale perfusion abnormalities. The additional information from TTP delay thresholds indicates critically reduced perfusion and appears to be a good prognostic indicator in combination with MR angiography and symptomatology.Eur Neurol 2016;75:27-32

Occlusion Location of Middle Cerebral Artery Stroke and Outcome after Endovascular Treatment
Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of the location of middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion on recanalization, complications and outcome after endovascular therapy. Methods: Four-hundred sixty-four patients with acute MCA occlusions were treated with endovascular therapy. Results: Two-hundred ninety-three patients had M1 occlusions, 116 had M2, and 55 had M3/4 occlusions. Partial or complete recanalization was more frequently achieved in M1 (76.8%) than in M2 (59.1%) or M3/4 (47.3%, p

New-Onset Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis in Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: This risk prediction model can be helpful to estimate the risk of an underlying pAF within 3 months after suffering an IS/TIA, contributing to increased AF detection efforts, thereby starting the correct secondary prevention treatment.Eur Neurol 2015;74:211-217

Efficacy and Safety of Citalopram in Treating Post-Stroke Depression: A Meta-Analysis
Background and Purpose: To evaluate the citalopram in post-stroke depression treatment, we compared its use to other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), and traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Methods: We searched databases up to May 2015. Relative risk (RR) for dichotomous data and standard mean difference (SMD) for continuous variables were analyzed using Stata 13.1. Results: The RR of the efficacy index compared to TCAs was 1.07 (95% CI 1.01-1.14, p = 0.02), and the Hamilton Depression Scale with citalopram was lower than that found with other SSRIs (SMD -0.43, 95% CI -0.85 to -0.01, p
