Cerebral Taenia crassiceps larvae infection in a 71-year-old immunocompetent male
We report a rare case of a cerebral infection withTaenia crassiceps tapeworm larvae in an immunocompetent 71-year-old German male. Initially, an intracerebral malignoma was suspected after the patient experienced stroke-like symptoms. After surgery, helminth larvae, later identified asT. crassiceps, were detected. Identification on the species level was possible by specific PCR and sequencing. After complete surgical removal, the patient was treated with albendazole and dexamethasone for two weeks. No residual symptoms were reported up to date.

Left-sided infective endocarditis in persons who inject drugs
ConclusionsLSIE in PWID is not uncommon. Compared to non-LSIE in PWID, valve surgery is more common and mortality is higher. For reasons that are unclear, stroke is more frequent in LSIE in PWID than in non-PWID with LSIE but mortality is no different.

Neuroinfections caused by fungi
ConclusionAlthough the number of fungal species causing CNS mycosis is increasing, only some possess well-defined treatment standards (e.g., cryptococcal meningitis and CNS aspergillosis). The early diagnosis of fungal infection, accompanied by identification of the etiological factor, is needed to allow the selection of effective therapy in patients with FIs-CNS and limit their high mortality.

Fatal Neisseria macacae infective endocarditis: first report
We present here the first case ofN. macacae infective endocarditis in a 65-year-old man with a native aortic valve infection complicated by a peri-aortic abscess. N. macacae was isolated from blood culture and was found on the cardiac valve using 16S rDNA detection. Despite an appropriate antibiotic therapy, and aortic homograft replacement, and mitral repair, the patient died 4  days after surgery from a massive hemorrhagic stroke.

Influence of chronic illnesses and underlying risk conditions on the incidence of pneumococcal pneumonia in older adults
Conclusion Our data support that nursing home residence, chronic pulmonary disease and immunocompromising conditions are the underlying conditions most strongly associated with an increasing risk of pneumococcal pneumonia in older adults. This data underline the need for better prevention strategies among these persons.
