Factors associated with migraine aura mimicking stroke in code stroke
ConclusionsIn code stroke, a model including age, sex, NIHSS, and fibrinogen showed a good discrimination capability to differentiate between MA and Ischemic stroke. Whether these variables can be implemented in a diagnostic rule should be tested in future studies.

Aseptic meningitis in Fabry disease due to a novel GLA variant: an expanded phenotype?
ConclusionWe described aseptic meningitis in a family with a novelGLA variant. Meningitis might be a common phenomenon in FD and not a particularity of this variant. Understanding the mechanisms underlying meningitis and its association with cerebrovascular events may lead to a new paradigm of treatment for stroke in these patients. Further prospective studies with CSF collection in patients with FD and recurrent headache could help to elucidate this question.

Clinicopathological features of neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease diagnosed by skin biopsy
ConclusionsThe results indicated that inclusions were more easily detected in sweat gland cells in skin biopsy. The early stage of NIID could only characterized by autonomic nerve function involvement. Combined autonomic nerve dysfunction might be another relatively common manifestation in NIID.

Cerebral venous thrombosis: a retrospective unicentric analysis of clinical and neuroimaging characteristics
AbstractThrombosis of dural sinuses and/or cerebral veins (CVT) is an uncommon form of stroke, usually affecting young individuals. It has a variable clinical presentation ranging from mild cases presenting only headaches, to severe cases featuring encephalopathy, coma or status epilepticus. A retrospective cross-sectional study of patients treated in the outpatient department and in-hospital during the period from 2014 to 2020 at the Neurology Clinic —University Clinical Centre of Serbia was conducted. Forty-nine patients (24 men; 25 women) were included in the study. Twenty-three patients (46.9%) suffered a subacute fo...

Thrombophilic alterations, migraine, and vascular disease: results from a case-control study
ConclusionsOur research documented a significative higher prevalence of aPL positivity and protein S deficiency in migraineurs than in controls. Data also showed an association between these alterations and some vascular thrombotic events in migraine patients. We can argue that thrombophilic disorders associated with migraine may contribute to the occurrence of vascular events.

Neurological manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019: exploring past to understand present
AbstractSARS-CoV-2 infection, resulting in Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), has significantly affected the entire world. It was labelled a pandemic by World Health Organization. Although it commonly produces respiratory symptoms, neurological features have been described. Neurological manifestations may vary from non-specific symptoms such as headache, dizziness, myalgia and/or fatigue, olfactory or taste dysfunction to specific syndromes including meningitis, stroke, acute transverse myelitis and Guillain-Barre syndrome. This review describes potential pathogenetic mechanisms and neurological manifestations of COVID-1...

Neurological reasons for consultation and hospitalization during the COVID-19 pandemic
ConclusionNeurological disturbances represent a significant and severe burden in COVID-19 patients, and they can be the presenting condition that leads to the diagnosis of the viral infection in a high percentage of patients. Evidence of direct viral mechanisms was scarce, but the pathogenesis of the diverse manifestations remains enigmatic.

Stroke-like migraine attacks after radiation therapy (SMART) syndrome —a case series and review
ConclusionOur extensive review favors MRI, CT, and prolonged EEG monitoring to rule out other differentials and showed that initiation of corticosteroid therapy and antiepileptic treatment were helpful in the resolution of symptoms and prevent recurrences. Therefore, future studies should be focused on early identification and management guidelines for SMART syndrome.

Ischemic stroke in young adults in Bogota, Colombia: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionThis study demonstrates the need to make a deep evaluation of the past medical history, laboratory tests, and new risk factors in young adults. On the other hand, modifiable cardiovascular risk factors top the list, showing the need to implement health promotion strategies for young adults.

Brain hyperintensities in magnetic resonance imaging of patients with mild acute focal neurology
ConclusionHyperintensities could serve as a diagnostic and prognostic imaging biomarker for patients, presenting with mild acute focal neurology, warranting application of automated quantification methods. However, larger cohorts are required to provide a definitive answer especially as this is a heterogenous group of patients.

The pathological spectrum behind migraine aura status: a case series
ConclusionsIn front of a patient with a MAS, an organic lesion of the brain must be suspected, until a complete negative vascular and neuroradiological diagnostic workup has been performed. A spectrum of underlying pathologies (vascular or demyelinating diseases, epileptic or degenerative conditions) may cause a MAS-like clinical onset. The variability of aura symptoms may result in a real diagnostic challenge.

The urgent neurological consultation in the population of the province of Ferrara, Italy
AbstractIn the province of Ferrara, Italy, the urgent neurological consultation (UNC) cases in the population correspond to the resident outpatients who undergo a UNC in the ER of the university hospital of Ferrara (UHFe). Thanks to this health organization a retrospective survey identified 612 UNC cases (range of age 7 –102 years, median 67,5 years) in the study period giving a period prevalence rate of 173 per 100,000 (95% CI 159.3–187.3) which increased with age (χ2 for trend  = 178.4p <  0.001). The daily UNC cases (range 0–14, mean = 7.3, 95% CI 7.1–7.5) followed the Poisson distribution (goo...

Migraine as a risk factor for young patients with ischemic stroke: a case –control study
AbstractStudies have suggested a possible association of migraine and increased risk of ischemic stroke in young adults, particularly in smokers and in women who use oral contraceptive drugs. We aimed to analyze the association between migraine and ischemic stroke in young population in a hospital-based cohort. We included 202 consecutive patients with the diagnosis of ischemic stroke who were between 15 and 50  years and age- and gender-matched 250 volunteers with no history of stroke. All participants were interviewed using a questionnaire for migraine. Localization of ischemic lesion was classified as anterior and post...
