Valve-Sparing Root Replacement vs Composite Valve Grafting in Aortic Root Dilation: A Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsAortic valve sparing appears to be safe, and associated with reduced late mortality, thromboembolism/stroke and bleeding compared with composite valve grafting. Antithrombotic Strategies after Bioprosthetic Aortic Valve Replacement: A Systematic Review
ConclusionsTreatment with warfarin or aspirin both lead to similar outcomes after surgical bAVR. Combining aspirin with warfarin may lead to a small decrease in thromboembolism and mortality but is accompanied by increased bleeding. For TAVR patients, aspirin is equivalent to DAPT for reducing thromboembolism and mortality, with a possible decrease in bleeding.

Factors Associated with Prolonged Survival in Left Ventricular Assist Device Recipients
ConclusionsPreoperative diabetes and amiodarone use were associated with poor long-term survival in LVAD recipients. Development of early complications of stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, hemolysis, or pump thrombosis was also associated with poor long-term survival. Early diagnosis and treatment of these complications may improve survival in LVAD recipients.

Risk of Intraatrial Thrombi After Thoracoscopic Ablation in Absence of Heparin and Appendage Closure
Conclusions Thoracoscopic ablation of AF can be associated with a risk of left atrial appendage thrombus formation and possibly also stroke. With administration of heparin during the ablation, followed by occlusion of the left atrial appendage as a part of the procedure, this risk can be effectively reduced.

Long-Term Risk of Ischemic Stroke After the Cox-Maze III Procedure for Atrial Fibrillation
Conclusions This multicenter study showed a low incidence of perioperative and long-term postoperative ischemic stroke/TIA after CM-III. Although general risk of ischemic stroke/TIA was reduced, patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score 2 or greater had a higher risk compared with score 0 or 1. Complete left atrial appendage excision may be an important reason for the low ischemic stroke rate.
