Glycemic Variability and Functional Outcome After Acute Ischemic Stroke (P1.191)
Conclusions: An elevated GV on day 1 was significantly associated with worse functional outcome in patients with ischemic stroke. GV could be an important therapeutic target in the early management of acute ischemic stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Camara-Lemarroy has nothing to disclose. Dr. González-Moreno has nothing to disclose. Analysis of Risk Factors for In-Hospital Stroke Mortality and Stroke Readmission in Hospital Risoleta Tolentino Neves (HRTN) - Belo Horizonte, Brazil (P1.213)
Conclusions: This study identified previous history of AF, cardiopathy and diabetes as risk-factors for increased stroke in-hospital mortality. We also identified that cardioembolic stroke, previous Chagas' disease and prosthetic heart valve increased the risk of readmission.Disclosure: Dr. Meira has nothing to disclose. Women Had Worse Stroke Outcome (P1.217)
Conclusion: in our cohort women have worst post-stroke outcome, even though they have higher burden of vascular risk factors they have lower prevalence of vascular disease in other vascular beds previous to stroke. This difference persists after adjusting by age, raising the possibility of specific gender risk factors influencing on ischemic stroke outcomes.Disclosure: Dr. Zurru has nothing to disclose. Comparison of Ventricular Assist Device (VAD)-Related Stroke to the General Stroke Population: Associations with In-Hospital Mortality (P1.223)
Conclusions: Ischemic stroke in patients with VAD is associated with high in-hospital mortality. Although both older patients and women comprised a smaller percentage of VADWS than in the general stroke population, there was no age or sex association with mortality. While pre-existing CAD was more prevalent in VADWS, these patients had lower in-hospital mortality, possibly suggesting an additional unidentified subset with high mortality. Further study is needed to explore the associations between age, sex, and CAD in patients with VAD and ischemic stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Peters has nothing to disclose. Dr. Singh has nothing...

Nursing Home Residents with Seizure Disorders/Epilepsy: Prevalence, Characteristics, and Treatment Patterns (P1.080)
Conclusions: NHRs with seizure disorder/epilepsy have substantial physical and cognitive impairment. Nearly half were prescribed combination AED therapy, and >20[percnt] took 蠅3 different AEDs, suggesting refractory epilepsy. Additional research is needed to assess treatment outcomes and further define optimal care in this population.Disclosure: Dr. Zarowitz has nothing to disclose. Dr. Allen has nothing to disclose. Olfactory and Gustatory Dysfunction and Subsequent Stroke Risk: A Community-Based Cohort Study (P1.107)
CONCLUSIONS: Olfactory and gustatory dysfunction was associated with increased short-term future risks of stroke. Further studies with larger sample size and objective measures of olfactory and gustatory function are warranted to confirm our findings.Disclosure: Dr. Ma has nothing to disclose. Disparity in Decreased Age and Increased Incidence of Stroke in a Low-Income Chinese Population (P1.108)
Conclusions:Two disparities, which including decreased mean age of stroke onset and increased incidence, and decreased mean age of stroke onset and increased life expectancy were found in a low-income Chinese population, especially in men. These findings imply that stroke burden will continue to increase in China if the risk factors remain unchecked. Disclosure: Dr. Wang has nothing to disclose. Dr. Yang has nothing to disclose. Pattern of Acute Stroke Presentation in a Young Tertiary Hospital in South-South, Nigeria: Appraisal of Risk Factors and Clinical Outcomes (P1.118)
CONCLUSION: Stroke is associated with high mortality with patients presenting relatively young. Hemorrhagic stroke is common though ischemic stroke is still the commonest. Hypertension is the commonest risk factor. Family history of stroke and recurrent or history of previous stroke are also high.Disclosure: Dr. Obiabo has received personal compensation for activities with Novartis as a speaker.

Smoking is Associated with All-Cause Mortality after Stroke (P1.121)
Conclusions: Stroke survivors who continue to smoke are nearly 2.5 times more likely to die of all causes compared to those who never smoked and nearly twice as likely to die of all causes compared to former smokers. These findings underscore the importance of smoking cessation counseling in order to improve outcomes after stroke.Disclosure: Dr. MacCallum has nothing to disclose. Stroke Subtypes and Risk Factors in Saudi Arabia (P1.124)
CONCLUSION: Non-cardioembolic disease was the overwhelming stroke mechanism in this middle-eastern cohort with only 4[percnt] of patients have cardioembolic stroke, in comparison to roughly 20[percnt] reported in Western cohorts. In part, these differences may be explained by deficient prolonged cardiac monitoring. However the high prevalence of atherothrombotic risk factors and overrepresentation of non-cardioembolic stroke suggests a need to optimize atherothrombotic stroke risk factor management within our populationDisclosure: Dr. Al Harbi has nothing to disclose. Prevalence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome in Patients with Acute Cerebral Infarction (P1.179)
Conclusions: High prevalence of MSOSA was found in our population. Those patients had extended hospital stay, higher BMI and greater weight. Prolonged hospitalization was not related to greater NIHSS. Our results suggest that patients with acute cerebral infarction should be systematically assessed for the presence of OSA.Disclosure: Dr. Quiroga has nothing to disclose. Why Delay the Control of Modifiable Vascular Risk Factors (MVRF) Until the Occurrence of an Ischemic Stroke (iStroke)? (P1.180)
Conclusions: We found that the management of MVRF increases after the first ischemic event and this improves the early prognosis of iStroke (Rankin-based disability). It is important to improve the management of these factors in the setting of primary prevention.Disclosure: Dr. Pagano Ajolfi has nothing to disclose. Dr. Sanz has nothing to disclose. Association of Hemoglobin A1c and Baseline Ischemic Stroke Severity: A Population-Based Study (P1.187)
Conclusions: We found that elevated HbA1c was associated with decreased stroke severity at presentation. However, this effect is mediated by the history of DM rather than a specific dose-effect of glycemic control. Our results provide evidence that although chronic hyperglycemia increases risk of stroke, it is not associated with increased stroke severity.Disclosure: Dr. Yang has nothing to disclose.
