Safety of urgent endarterectomy in acute non ‐disabling stroke patients with symptomatic carotid artery stenosis: an international multicenter study
ConclusionsOur findings highlight that urgent CEA performed within two days from the index event is related to a non ‐significant increase in the risk of peri‐procedural stroke. The safety of urgent CEA requires further evaluation in larger datasets. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Impact of heart rate on admission on mortality and morbidity in acute ischaemic stroke patients – results from VISTA
ConclusionsIn acute stroke patients, higher HR (>86 bpm) is linked to mortality, heart failure and higher degree of dependence after 90 days but not to recurrent stroke, TIA or MI.

Migraine and risk of ischaemic heart disease: a systematic review and meta‐analysis of observational studies
ConclusionsBased on our data indicating an association of migraine with myocardial infarction and angina and on previous data showing an association of migraine, and particularly migraine with aura, with an increased risk for stroke, migraine can be appropriately considered an overall risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.

Impact of proteinuria and glomerular filtration rate on risk of ischaemic and intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke: a result from the Kailuan study
ConclusionsProteinuria increased the risk of stroke in a general Chinese population.

Safety of early endarterectomy in patients with symptomatic carotid artery stenosis: an international multicenter study
ConclusionsOur findings indicate that the risk of early CEA in consecutive unselected patients with non‐disabling AIS or TIA due to sCAS is acceptable when the procedure is performed within 2 weeks (or even within 2 days) from symptom onset.

Association of ischaemic stroke subtype with long‐term cardiovascular events
ConclusionsLarge‐artery atherosclerotic stroke and cardioembolic stroke are associated with the highest risk for future cardiovascular events, with the latter carrying at least as high a risk as LAA stroke.

Endothelial markers are associated with thrombolysis resistance in acute stroke patients
ConclusionsRecanalization after thrombolytic therapy is associated with low sTM and sEPCR levels but not with vWF levels. If corroborated in further larger studies, these findings could be helpful in the identification of patients resistant to rt‐PA thrombolysis who could benefit from a modified recanalization therapy.

Ankle‐brachial index long‐term outcome after first‐ever ischaemic stroke
ConclusionsLow ABI in patients with acute IS is associated with increased 5‐year cardiovascular event risk and mortality. However, ABI does not appear to predict long‐term stroke recurrence.

The association between asymptomatic coronary artery disease and CHADS2 and CHA2DS2‐VASc scores in patients with stroke
ConclusionCHADS2 and CHA2DS2‐VASc scores were predictive of the presence and severity of CAD in patients with stroke. When a patient has high CHADS2 or CHA2DS2‐VASc scores, physicians should consider coronary artery evaluation.

Endovascular therapy in 201 patients with acute symptomatic occlusion of the internal carotid artery
ConclusionsThe outcome of acute symptomatic ICA occlusion is poor. However, recanalization is associated with better outcome, and recanalization rates with mechanical techniques were superior to merely pharmacological recanalization attempts.
