Modelling long-term outcomes and risk of death for patients with post-stroke spasticity receiving abobotulinumtoxina treatment and rehabilitation therapy
CONCLUSION: AbobotulinumtoxinA + rehabilitation therapy may improve long-term outcomes, including post-stroke survival, while being cost-effective for the treatment of post-stroke spasticity.PMID:35844200 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.2422

Skeletal muscle changes in the first three months of stroke recovery: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: Muscle strength and thickness changes during the first 3 months after stroke in both the paretic and non-paretic side. Future studies should aim to understand "how" the stroke-induced muscle strength changes are achieved. Exploring existing data from longitudinal studies, by using cluster analyses, such as pattern recognition, could add to the current knowledge-base.PMID:35848335 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.573

Effectiveness of Motor Imagery Combined with Structured Progressive Circuit Class Training on Functional Mobility in Post-Stroke Individuals: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSION: Motor imagery combined with structured progressive circuit class therapy was more effective on the step test, 6-Minute Walk Test, and Timed Up and Go test than training with structured progressive circuit class therapy alone. This suggests that motor imagery should be incorporated into training programmes for restoring dynamic balance, endurance, and functional mobility in post-stroke individuals.PMID:35797065 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.1390

Bilateral movement-based computer games improve sensorimotor functions in subacute stroke survivors
CONCLUSION: Bilateral movement-based computer games may serve as an adjuvant therapy to conventional rehabilitation programmes for improving upper limb recovery among stroke survivors.PMID:35730901 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.913

Cumulative Risk and Factors Associated with Fall-Related Fractures in Stroke Survivors after Discharge from Rehabilitation Wards: A Retrospective Study with a 6-Year Follow-Up
CONCLUSION: The cumulative risk of fall-related fractures in stroke survivors post-discharge from a rehabilitation hospital was notably high. Intensive preventive intervention should be considered for female stroke survivors with moderate lower limb paresis.PMID:35652928 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.2314

Changes In Perceived Impact Of Stroke On Everyday Life Over Five Years In A Rehabilitation Sample That Received An Activity Of Daily Living Intervention: A Follow-Up Study
CONCLUSION: These findings stress the importance of access to follow-up rehabilitation interventions 1-year post-stroke to enable participation in daily activities. Such follow-up and enablement would support the use of self-management strategies in the performance of persons' valued activities, which might be difficult to perform, due to, for example, impact on hand function or mobility. The results of this study emphasize the importance of prioritizing participation in activities that are meaningful from a personal perspective.PMID:35582945 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.1060

Efficacy of Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthosis on Functional Mobility and Activities of Daily Living in Patients with Stroke: A Systematic Review of Case Reports
CONCLUSION: This systematic review of case reports found limited evidence of the efficacy of KAFO in terms of improvement in functional mobility and ADL. Of value, this study revealed the optimal outcomes for measuring the efficacy of KAFO.PMID:35582910 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.87
