Increased Stiffness Is the Major Early Abnormality in a Pig Model of Severe Aortic Stenosis and Predisposes to Congestive Heart Failure in the Absence of Systolic Dysfunction Heart Failure
Conclusion
Increased stiffness is the major early pathological process that predisposes to congestive heart failure without abnormalities in systolic function and relaxation in a clinically relevant animal model of aortic stenosis.

Clinical Correlates and Prognostic Significance of Change in Standardized Left Ventricular Mass in a Community-Based Cohort of African Americans Epidemiology
Conclusions
In our community-based sample of African Americans, baseline BMI and BP, and change in BP on follow-up were key determinants of increase in standardized log-LVMI, which in turn carried an adverse prognosis, underscoring the need for greater control of BP and weight in this group.

Predictors of Long-term Clinical Endpoints in Patients With Refractory Angina Coronary Heart Disease
Conclusions
Clinically stable patients with RA who are medically managed have a modest mortality, but a high incidence of hospitalization and resource use over 3 years. These findings point to the need for novel therapies aimed at symptom mitigation in this population and their potential impact on health care utilization and costs.

Cardiac Hemodynamics are Linked With Structural and Functional Features of Brain Aging: The Age, Gene/Environment Susceptibility (AGES)-Reykjavik Study Epidemiology
Conclusions
A graded decrease in cardiac functioning is associated with features of brain aging. Older persons with cardiac or cognitive signs and symptoms may have both cardiac and cerebral diseases and should be evaluated accordingly.

Abnormal Stress-Related Measures of Arterial Stiffness in Middle-Aged and Elderly Men and Women With Impaired Fasting Glucose at Risk for a First Episode of Symptomatic Heart Failure Epidemiology
Conclusion
Middle- and older-aged individuals with diabetes or impaired fasting glucose have higher stress measures of arterial stiffness than those with normal fasting glucose. These data emphasize the need for future studies with larger sample sizes to determine whether stress-related elevations in arterial stiffness are related to exercise intolerance and future episodes of heart failure experienced by those with abnormalities of fasting glucose.

Resistive and Pulsatile Arterial Hemodynamics and Cardiovascular Events: The Multiethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Heart Failure
Conclusions
Greater total arterial compliance, manifest by higher stroke volume/pulse pressure is associated with a reduced incidence of subsequent CVE. In contrast, SVR was not independently associated with CVE in subjects free of overt cardiovascular disease at baseline. These findings support the concept that alternations in the large conduit vessels, rather than changes in microvascular resistance, are primarily related to incident cardiovascular disease.

Prognostic Value of Estimated Functional Capacity Incremental to Cardiac Biomarkers in Stable Cardiac Patients Coronary Heart Disease
Conclusion
A simple self-assessment tool of functional capacity in stable patients undergoing elective diagnostic cardiac evaluation provides independent and incremental prognostic value for prediction of both significant coronary angiographic disease and long-term adverse clinical events.

Short-Term Change in eGFR and Risk of Cardiovascular Events Health Services and Outcomes Research
Conclusion
Clinically relevant changes in eGFR are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events. However, most of the apparent increase in risk can be accounted for by assessing comorbidity and baseline kidney function.

Importance of Exercise Capacity in Predicting Outcomes and Determining Optimal Timing of Surgery in Significant Primary Mitral Regurgitation Valvular Heart Disease
Conclusion
In patients with primary MR that underwent exercise echocardiography followed by MV surgery, lower achieved metabolic equivalents were associated with worse long-term outcomes. In those with preserved exercise capacity, delaying MV surgery by ≥1 year did not adversely affect outcomes.
