Therapeutic Synergism in the Treatment of Post-stroke Arm Paresis Utilizing Botulinum Toxin, Robotic Therapy, and Constraint-induced Movement Therapy
Botulinum toxin type A (BtxA) injection, constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT), and robotic therapy (RT) each represent promising approaches to enhance arm motor recovery after stroke. To provide more effective treatment for a 50-year-old man with severe left spastic hemiparesis, we attempted to facilitate CIMT with adaptive approaches to extend the wrist and fingers using RT for 10 consecutive weeks after BtxA injection. This combined treatment resulted in substantial improvements in arm function and the amount of arm use in activities of daily living, and may be effective for stroke patients with severe arm paresis.

Use of a Resting Hand Orthosis for the Hemiparetic Hand After Stroke
A 50-year-old right-handed man has been admitted to your stroke service after sustaining a left middle cerebral artery stroke. This is his first stroke. After an acute hospital stay of 5 days, he was admitted to inpatient rehabilitation. On admission to the rehabilitation unit, he presented with an essentially flaccid right arm, which demonstrated some synergistic movements (Fugl-Meyer, 8/66). Response and Prediction of Improvement in Gait Speed From Functional Electrical Stimulation in Persons With Poststroke Drop Foot
Conclusions: When an FDS was used, GS-C improved progressively over 42 weeks, with ≥50% of patients achieving a clinically meaningful 42-week total effect and 50% achieving a maximum GS-C by 12 weeks. Younger patients with greater mobility levels may benefit most from use of an FDS. AEs were frequent, mild, and reversible.

One-Year All-Cause Mortality After Stroke: A Prediction Model
Conclusion: When using readily available data, a simple index that stratifies stroke patients at hospital discharge according to low, moderate, high, and highest likelihood of all-cause 1-year mortality is feasible and can inform the postdischarge planning process, depending on level of risk.
