Risks of atrial fibrillation and death at discharge after thrombolysis in stroke patients: Northumbrian Sentinel Stroke Audit, 2013–2015
ConclusionFor future research, clinical outcomes in addition to atrial fibrillation and quality of life both at discharge and 6 months after thrombolysis treatment should be included for examination as well. For clinical practice, giving thrombolysis treatment in hospitals might need to be reconsidered if clinical outcomes were actually worse than not.

Ischemic stroke subtype is associated with outcome in thrombolyzed patients
ConclusionsCardioembolic stroke patients were more likely to achieve early neurological improvement and favorable outcome compared with LVD stroke following MRI‐based IV‐tPA treatment. This finding may reflect a difference in the effect of IV‐tPA among stroke subtypes.

Post‐stroke restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movements in sleep
ConclusionsThe observed differences in the clinical and radiological features of psRLS and psPLMS suggest that the pathophysiologies of the two conditions are distinct. Further research is needed to understand the pathophysiologies of primary RLS and PLMS.

Glucose in prediabetic and diabetic range and outcome after stroke
ConclusionsPatients with glucose in the prediabetic and diabetic range have an increased risk of unfavourable short‐term outcome after stroke. These findings illustrate the potential impact of early detection and treatment of these patients.

Cardiovascular risk factors and TIA characteristics in 19,872 Swedish TIA patients
ConclusionsThe fact that diabetes mellitus, atrial fibrillation, and smoking are more common in TIA patients than in the general population suggests that these factors are risk factors for TIA, even if causal relations cannot be proven. The relation between increasing age and longer attacks possibly reflects an increased proportion of embolic TIAs, or impaired recovery ability. Our results also suggest a significant proportion of untreated hypertension cases in the population.

Association of hepatitis B virus infection with decreased ischemic stroke
ConclusionHBV was correlated with a reduced risk of AIS development. Although a decrease in AIS risk was noted in the patients with HBV, preventing the development of AIS in this population warrants further attention.

A comparison of stroke rehabilitation; data from two national cohorts
ConclusionsAlthough components of the rehabilitation are reported as being the same, characteristics and the outcome of the inpatient rehabilitation are different. Therefore, comparison of stroke rehabilitation between countries requires caution.

Incidence and risk conditions of ischemic stroke in older adults
ConclusionIncidence and mortality from ischemic stroke remains considerable. Apart from age and history of atherosclerosis (prior stroke or coronary artery disease), atrial fibrillation, diabetes, and smoking were the underlying conditions most strongly associated with an increased risk.

Acute ischemic stroke and abnormal blood hemoglobin concentration
ConclusionsOur results suggest that an elevated HGB on the initial admission is associated with more severe strokes, greater disability at discharge, and higher 30‐day mortality after AIS. A low HGB on admission is associated with longer stay in the acute care hospital.

The determination of copeptin levels helps management decisions among transient ischaemic attack patients
ConclusionsSerum copeptin could be an important prognostic biomarker to guide management decisions among TIA patients. Therefore, TIA patients with copeptin levels below 13.8 pmol/l and without LAA have an insignificant risk of 7‐day SR and could be managed on an outpatient basis.

Resveratrol improves delayed r‐tPA treatment outcome by reducing MMPs
ConclusionsResveratrol could be potentially administered as an adjuvant with r‐tPA treatment, which extends the clinical therapeutic window of r‐tPA, therefore improving the outcome of patients receiving late stroke treatment.

Depression but not anxiety predicts recurrent cerebrovascular events
ConclusionsDepression occurring early after stroke was associated with the increased risk of recurrent cerebrovascular events in ischemic stroke survivors. Care plan to detect and manage depression should be implemented to prevent recurrent stroke.

Epidemiology of stroke in Finnish patients with Huntington's disease
ConclusionCerebrovascular disease is as common in patients with HD as in the general population, but minor cerebrovascular events and vascular risk factors may remain unrecognized. Genetic burden of the HTT mutation does not appear to increase the risk of stroke.

Health outcomes and costs of ischemic stroke patients in Finland
ConclusionsStroke patients’ improved outcome is clear, but it remains uncertain to what extent it is attributable to the development of care. More research is needed to study the cost‐effectiveness of stroke care.
