Safety, Efficacy, and Cost-Effectiveness of Same-Day Discharge for Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: Same-day discharge strategy for LAAO appears safe, feasible and could become the new standard approach for LAAO. A protocol including CTA pre-procedural planning, ICE-guided deployment and conscious sedation reduces hospital occupation and lowers costs.PMID:35100555

Procedural and Short-Term Follow-Up Outcomes of Amplatzer Amulet Occluder versus Watchman FLX Device: A Meta-Analysis
Left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion provides effective protection against thromboembolic (TE) events in high-risk atrial fibrillation patients. Two percutaneous devices are currently available in the United States for stroke prophylaxis: the WatchmanTM device (Boston Scientific, USA) and the AmplatzerTM AmuletTM Left Atrial Appendage Occluder (Abbott, USA). The latter has recently received Food and Drug Administration approval as a result of the findings of the Amulet IDE randomized trial (1), which showed superiority for LAA occlusion (lower rates of leaks>5mm) based on a comparison between the second generation Amplatz...

State-of-the-Art Review: Evidence on Red Meat Consumption and Hypertension Outcomes
Am J Hypertens. 2022 May 13:hpac064. doi: 10.1093/ajh/hpac064. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHypertension (HTN) is a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including ischemic heart disease, stroke, heart failure and atrial fibrillation. The prevalence of HTN, as well as mortality rates attributable to HTN, continue to increase, particularly in the United States and among Black populations. The risk of HTN involves a complex interaction of genetics and modifiable risk factors, including dietary patterns. In this regard, there is accumulating evidence that links dietary intake of red meat with a high...

Use of Prescription Medications With Cardiovascular Adverse Effects Among Older Adults in the United States
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this community-based cohort of older adults with no prior cardiovascular disease, the use of MACE medications was independently and consistently associated with an increased risk of such events in a dose-response fashion.
