It is found there is a decreased incidence of ischemic stroke in Northern America but increased incidence in Africa, Mongolia and southeast Asia. In the epidemiological study of carotid artery stenosis (CAS), Framingham study showed the prevalence of significant extracranial CAS was 7% in women and 9% in men (2). Combined Effects of Family History of Cardiovascular Disease and Serum C-reactive Protein Level on the Risk of Stroke: A 9.2-year Prospective Study among Mongolians in China
Conclusion Participants with both a family history of CVD and high CRP levels had the highest stroke incidence, suggesting that high CRP levels may increase stroke risk, especially of ischemic stroke, among individuals with a family history of CVD.

Incidence and Risks of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in China Brief Reports
Conclusions— The incidence of subarachnoid hemorrhage in China is slightly lower than in Western countries and is related to smoking, hypertension, and poor socioeconomic status.
