Aortic thrombosis: the forgotten source of ischemic stroke. A case report and systematic review of the literature
Monaldi Arch Chest Dis. 2021 Dec 3. doi: 10.4081/monaldi.2021.2090. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke represents one of the most important health problems in industrialized countries, both for epidemiological and socio-economic impact. The presence of thrombi in the aorta is rare and its treatment has not been uniquely defined. Here we report the case of an 82-years-old man with aortic thrombosis and acute ischemic stroke.PMID:34865461 | DOI:10.4081/monaldi.2021.2090

Transverse sinus mass misinterpreted as the source of cardiac emboli.
Authors: Allam HH, Kinsara AJ, Alrajawi A, Tuaima T, Vriz O Abstract Due to the proximity of the transvers sinus (TS) to the left atrial appendage (LAA) and pulmonary veins (PV), a mass in the TS can be misinterpreted as a LAA or PV thrombus, and considered as a source of emboli in a patient with stroke or transient ischemic attack. The incorrect identification of a mass as a LAA thrombus would initiate unnecessary anticoagulation therapy or potentially, an evaluation for the excision of the mass if there is a concern about dislodgement. We are presenting a case illustrating this confusion and review the literature...

Blood pressure control in older patients with carotid artery stenosis.
Authors: Faggiano P, Scodro M, Sbolli M, Branca L, Cani D, Valentini F, Perego C, Provini M Abstract StrokeĀ is the second largest cause of European cardiovascular and total mortality, largely due to atherosclerotic carotid artery narrowing or thromboembolism consequent to internal carotid artery stenosis. Current therapeutic indications suggest lifestyle interventions (smoking cessation, healthy diet and physical activity), adequate control of LDL-cholesterol and glycemic balance. It is nonetheless established that the most important factors in preventing stroke are antiplatelet therapy and blood pressure regulati...

Rivaroxaban in non valvular atrial fibrillation: subgroups analysis.
Authors: Greco C Abstract After the ROCKET AF study main paper several subgroups analysis were recently published. These studies are useful to better evaluate the rivaroxaban efficacy and safety in different clinical conditions. Here the subgroup analysis of patients with moderate renal failure, heart failure and diabetes are presented. Post hoc data on patients who underwent an electrical or pharmacological cardioversion during ROKET AF follow up were available and here we analyze also the results of the first randomized study on electrical cardioversion in patients treated with new oral anticolagulants: the X-VeR...
