Warfarin use, mortality, bleeding and stroke in haemodialysis patients with atrial fibrillation
Conclusions In our population of HD patients with AF, the mortality is very high. OAT is not associated with increased mortality, while antiplatelet drugs are. OAT seems, on the contrary, associated with a better survival; however, it does not decrease the incidence of ischaemic stroke, whereas it increases the incidence of bleeding. Bleeding risk is lower in subjects in whom the INR is kept within the therapeutic range.

Renovascular hypertension: A report of 21 cases.
Abstract Renovascular hypertension (RVH) is among the most common forms of secondary hypertension. We studied 21 patients (eight male and 13 female) with RVH who were encountered during a period of 16 years. The average age of the patients was 34.75 years. Trans-renal Doppler ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis of renovascular stenosis (RAS) as the cause of RVH in 95% of the patients. Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents in chronic kidney disease: What have we learned in 25 years?
Abstract Since the pioneering studies by Eschbach et al in 1987, erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) have become the mainstay of anemia therapy in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The introduction of ESAs 25 years ago markedly improved the lives of many patients with CKD, who until then had severe, often transfusion-dependent anemia. Use and safety of heparin-free maintenance hemodialysis in the USA
Conclusions Patient markers of increased risk of bleeding and facility region associated with heparin-free HD use. Despite the potential benefits of avoiding heparin use, heparin-free HD was not significantly associated with decreased hazards of death, bleeding or thrombosis, suggesting that it may be no safer than HD with heparin.

Progeria syndrome in CKD/ESRD
Conclusions: Renal impairment independently associates with greater stroke disability at presentation and worse functional outcomes despite modern stroke care. Nonetheless these patients are also less likely to be thrombolysed for acute ischaemic stroke, which suggests a possible inequity in access to healthcare that requires urgent study.

Sailing between Scylla and Charybdis: oral long-term anticoagulation in dialysis patients
End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients exhibit an increased risk of bleeding compared with non-chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients due to uraemic platelet dysfunction, altered vessel architecture and other factors.
