Complete anatomic surgical myocardial revascularisation during postinfarction ventricular septal defect and ventricular aneurysm repair is associated with improved short ‐ and long‐term outcomes
ConclusionPrimary CASMR during PIVSD and VA repair is associated with improved postoperative cardiac function, lower hospital mortality, and better long-term survival. We recommend CASMR during PIVSD and VA repair.

Trans ‐ventricular catheter device‐based closure of postmyocardial infarction ventricular septal defect following coronary artery bypass grafting: A staged hybrid approach
AbstractA 66 ‐year‐old woman with a history of hypertension, ischemic stroke, and rheumatoid arthritis presented to the hospital with severe angina pectoris and dyspnea and was diagnosed with myocardial infarction (MI). Coronary angiography revealed multisystem coronary artery occlusive disease. Due to refra ctory myocardial ischemia/evolving MI, emergency coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) was undertaken. Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography additionally revealed an apical muscular ventricular septal defect (VSD). Concomitant VSD repair was deferred due to the absence of surface evidence of transmural M...

Successful heart transplantation in a patient with Loeys-Dietz Syndrome.
Abstract Our patient is a 45-year-old woman with a history of Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS), vertebral artery dissection, stroke, prior atrial septal defect (ASD) repair, and spontaneous left main coronary artery dissection re-vascularized with coronary artery bypass grafting who progressed to end-stage heart failure. She was listed for cardiac transplantation and a suitable organ became available. She underwent heart transplantation over one year ago successfully. This is the first reported case of a successful heart transplantation in an individual with Loeys-Dietz syndrome. PMID: 30513314 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prophylactic Subclavian Artery Intraaortic Balloon Counter-Pulsation is Safe in High-Risk Cardiac Surgery Patients
The objective of this study was to determine the safety of prophylactic subclavian artery intraaortic balloon pumps (SCA-IABP) in high-risk cardiac surgery patients as a bridge to recovery (BTR). From November 2011 to January 2013, 11 consecutive patients at three institutions underwent prophylactic insertion of a SCA-IABP as a BTR. All patients (n = 11) had preoperative ejection fractions of 30% or less. Patients concurrently underwent one or a combination of the following procedures: coronary artery bypass grafting, mitral valve surgery, aortic valve replacement, left ventricular aneurysm resection, and ventricular/atria...
