Diagnostic value of coagulation index and serum inflammatory cytokines in hemorrhagic stroke patients with pulmonary infection in the sequelae stage
CONCLUSION: FIB, D-D, PLT, and IL-17 levels could be used for pulmonary infection diagnosis in the sequelae stage of hemorrhagic stroke patients.PMID:37661900 | DOI:10.3233/THC-230345

Appropriate Use Criteria of Left Atrial Appendage Closure Devices: Latest Evidences
Expert Rev Med Devices. 2023 May 1. doi: 10.1080/17434440.2023.2208748. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation is the most common arrythmia and it is linked to an increased risk of stroke. Even if anticoagulation therapy reduces the rate of stroke the benefits of this therapy have to been balanced with the increased risk of hemorrhagic event. Left atrial appendage closure is a valid alternative to long term anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation and high hemorrhagic risk. Actually new devices with different features have been tested and introduced progressively in the clinical practice. Improvement...

Improving Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Survival in COVID-19. Effect of a Bundle of Care
Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our program changed the model of care pursuing to protect the multidisciplinary team from the risk of infection and to serve as many patients as possible. Patient–healthcare interactions were restricted, and the ECMO bed capacity was increased by reducing the ECMO specialist–patient ratio to 1:4 with non-ECMO trained nurses support. The outcomes worsened and we paused while we evaluated and modified our model of care. The ECMO bed capacity was reduced to allow a nurse ECMO–specialist nurse ratio 2:1 with an ECMO traine...

Efficacy and safety of mechanical thrombectomy in acute stroke patients with pre-morbid disability
Expert Rev Med Devices. 2022 Sep 14:1-8. doi: 10.1080/17434440.2022.2124109. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Patients with pre-morbid disability have been generally excluded from randomized controlled trials of mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke. However, stroke physicians commonly encounter such patients in practice, and face challenging treatment decisions when caring for them.AREAS COVERED: We review the literature on the safety and efficacy of thrombectomy in patients with pre-morbid disability. Recent clinical-epidemiological studies have highlighted the adverse outcomes that come with each ...
