Interventional outcomes for patients eligible for entry into the ARUBA clinical trial: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Intervention for unruptured AVMs affords acceptable outcomes for appropriately selected patients. The risk of hemorrhage following intervention compared favorably to the natural history of unruptured AVMs. The included studies were retrospective and varied in treatment and AVM characteristics, thereby limiting the generalizability of their data. Future studies from prospective registries may clarify patient, nidus, and intervention selection criteria that will refine the challenging management of patients with unruptured AVMs.PMID:34740184 | DOI:10.3171/2021.7.JNS211186

Comparative study of on-label versus off-label treatment of intracranial aneurysms with the Pipeline embolization device
CONCLUSIONS: In real-world practice, off-label use of PED is common and can achieve similar efficacy as on-label use. However, in aggregate, off-label use was found to carry an increased rate of ischemic complications. Activation of the NLRP3/IL-1 β/MMP-9 pathway and intracranial aneurysm rupture associated with the depletion of ERα and Sirt1 in oophorectomized rats
CONCLUSIONS: To the authors' knowledge, this work represents the first demonstration that, in an aneurysm model under estrogen-deficient conditions, the depletion of ERα and Sirt1 may contribute to activation of the NLRP3/IL-1β/MMP-9 pathway, facilitating the rupture of IAs in the estrogen-deficient rat IA rupture model.PMID:35594890 | DOI:10.3171/2022.4.JNS212945

North American multicenter experience with the Flow Redirection Endoluminal Device in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms
CONCLUSIONS: As the first large-scale North American multicenter FRED experience, this study confirmed the ease of successful FRED deployment but suggested lower efficacy and a higher rate of complications than reported by previous European and South American studies on FRED and other flow-diverting devices.
