Association of obstructive sleep apnoea with cardiovascular events in women and men with acute coronary syndrome
Conclusions In hospitalised ACS patients, OSA was associated with increased risk of subsequent events, particularly among women. Female patients with ACS should not be neglected for OSA screening and dedicated intervention studies focusing on women with ACS and comorbid OSA should be prioritised.

Hospitalizations in OSA patients
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with cardiovascular comorbidities and other chronic diseases, accounting for long-term morbidity, with elevated symptomatic burden and hospitalizations. We aim to study the hospitalizations' causes in OSA patients and its relation to OSA severity and PAP therapy adhesion. This is a retrospective study including 281 hospitalizations corresponding to 200 OSA patients during 2019. Mean age 65 years, 67% were males, and 43,5% (n=87) had severe OSA; 85% patients under PAP; 60,4% (n=102) good adherent patients. Overlap with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (n=7) and COPD (n=48) was noti...

Registry on the treatment of central and complex sleep-disordered breathing with adaptive servo-ventilation (READ-ASV): cohort profile
Conclusion: Most of the participants had severe sleep apnoea, while disease specific quality of life was modestly impaired. TE-CSA and CSA in cardiovascular disease were the most common indications for ASV.

Prevalence of Cardiometabolic Disease in the Greek Sleep Apnea Patients Cohort
Conclusions: We conclude that cardiometabolic disease was very prevalent in our SAP with moderate-severe sleep apnea. Our population consisted mainly of male, obese, middle aged patients. It is of grate interest the high percentage of comorbidities, especially that of arrythmias. Further analysis is needed, in order to identify different phenotypes and the subsequent personalized therapeutic approach.

The prevalence and risk factors of obstructive sleep apnea in patients with stroke in a tertiary care hospital in India
Conclusion: OSA is highly prevalent in the stroke population with subtle clinical symptoms. BMI was found to be an independent risk factor associated with moderate to severe OSA. A diagnostic sleep study is warranted in stroke patients, particularly with obesity.

Pulse-rate variability during sleep studies predicts stroke risk in patients with obstructive sleep apnea
Conclusion: In patients investigated for clinical suspicion of OSA, PRV derived from oximetry during sleep studies allows a reliable prediction of stroke incidence: patients with marked low sympathetic/parasympathetic tone, expressed as a decrease in the LF/HF ratio, were at higher risk of stroke.

Polygraphic parameters do not correlate with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) symptoms according to Baveno
Conclusion: Isolated PG data are not suitable biomarkers to predict OSA symptoms and thus, should not be the only basis to guide therapy.

Genetic analysis of obstructive sleep apnoea discovers a strong association with cardiometabolic health
There is currently limited understanding of the genetic aetiology of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). We aimed to identify genetic loci associated with OSA risk, and to test if OSA and its comorbidities share a common genetic background. We conducted the first large-scale genome-wide association study of OSA using the FinnGen study (217 955 individuals) with 16 761 OSA patients identified using nationwide health registries. We estimated 0.08 (95% CI 0.06–0.11) heritability and identified five loci associated with OSA (p<5.0x10–8): rs4837016 near GAPVD1 (GTPase activating protein and VPS9 domains 1), rs1092856...

Cutting the fat: advances and challenges in sleep apnoea genetics
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), characterised by recurrent upper airway obstruction, intermittent hypoxia and fragmented sleep, affects >15% of the adult population, with prevalence increasing markedly with advancing age and age-related cardiometabolic and pulmonary disorders [1]. Causal associations between OSA and hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke and mortality are suggested by numerous large prospective studies [2], raising the possibility that effective treatment of OSA might provide a novel strategy for primary and secondary prevention of cardiometabolic dise...

Hypoxic burden and heart rate variability predict stroke incidence in sleep apnoea
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is increasingly recognised as a risk factor for stroke [1]. However, the incidence of stroke in patients investigated for OSA has been assessed in a limited number of studies reporting conflicting results on the association between the apnoea–hypopnoea index (AHI) and stroke incidence [1–3].
