Effect of Solitaire FR Stent Thrombectomy Combined with the Suction Thrombus on the Clinical Effect and Prognosis of Acute Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 Jul 30;2022:9227790. doi: 10.1155/2022/9227790. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTTo determine the curative effect and prognosis of Solitaire FR stent thrombectomy integrated with the suction thrombus on the treatment of acute middle cerebral artery occlusion (AMCAO). Based on the treatment, patients suffering from AMCAO were separated into the Solitaire FR group (Solitaire FR stent + suction thrombus) and suction group (suction thrombus). Modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction grading, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, modified Rankin Scale score, and safety pe...

Predictors of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after endovascular treatment for acute large vessel occlusion: data from ANGEL-ACT registry
AbstractSymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (SICH) is a catastrophic complication of endovascular treatment (EVT) for large vessel occlusion (LVO). We aimed to investigate the incidence and predictors of SICH after EVT. Patients were selected from the ANGEL-ACT registry. We diagnosed SICH according to the Heidelberg Bleeding Classification. Logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the independent predictors of SICH. Of the 1283 patients, SICH was observed in 116 patients (9.0%). On multivariable analysis, admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)  >  12 (odds ratio [OR] = 1.86,...

Electrical stimulation of the brain may help people who stutter
When Guillermo Mejias was 7 years old, his parents sent him out to buy bread during a family holiday in southern Spain. Mejias still remembers his growing anxiety as he walked to the bakery, repeating what he would say over and over in his head. But when the moment arrived, he was unable to produce a single word. He recalls returning empty-handed, ashamed, and wondering what to tell his parents. “I was so tense that I had been inadvertently biting my cheeks and tongue and my mouth was bleeding,” he says. Mejias still stutters, but today, as a brain researcher at the Complutense University of Madrid, he investigate...

Clinical Outcomes and Patient Safety of Nasogastric Tube in Acute Stroke Patients
Discussion with family prior to insertion of NGT recorded in 46 (18.4%). There were 123 cases (49.2%) of aspiration pneumonia. There were 188 (75.2%) NGT associated complications: 67 patients (26.8%) had failed insertion, 31 required multip le attempts, 129 patients (51.6%) pulled out NGT, 107 patients (42.8%) had NGT placed in wrong positions and require reinsertion, 20 cases in the lung, 5 pneumothorax cases, 97 in the gastro oesophageal junction or hiatus hernias, 1 case of oesophageal ulceration, 37 coiled, kinked or resistance. 78 cases the tips were not seen on chest X-ray (CXR), gastrointestinal bleeding in 9 cases,...

Mechanical thrombectomy in patients with stroke due to large vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and low baseline NIHSS score
J Integr Neurosci. 2021 Sep 30;20(3):645-650. doi: 10.31083/j.jin2003068.ABSTRACTWe sought to verify the benefit of mechanical thrombectomy in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and low National Institute of Health stroke scale score at presentation. The prospective database of our stroke center was screened for patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion and a baseline National Institute of Health stroke scale score ≤5 that had undergone mechanical thrombectomy. Outcome measures were the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 90 days, brain b...
