Safety of OnabotulinumtoxinA Treatment With Concomitant Antithrombotic Therapy in Patients With Post-stroke Spasticity: A Pooled Analysis of Randomized, Double-Blind Studies (S56.008)
Conclusions:There is no apparent increased risk of bleeding complications in patients on antithrombotics following IM onabotA treatment; nonetheless, careful observation of the injection site and patient education of the potential for bleeding complications remain warranted.Study Supported by: Allergan plc, Dublin, IrelandDisclosure: Dr. Dimitrova has received personal compensation for activities with Allergan as an employee. Delay of Percutaneous Gastrostomy Tube (PEG) Placement in Patients with Ischemic Stroke in a Large Urban Hospital. (P1.063)
CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that hypertension, use of AA agents and use of tPA puts stroke patients at risk of having a delay in PEG placement. Prior studies have shown that aspirin use is not associated with increased bleeding complications during PEG placement. Education can help avoid delay in PEG tube placement due to aspirin use. Early PEG placement in ischemic stroke patients may improve clinical outcome and decrease hospital costs.Disclosure: Dr. Raval has nothing to disclose. Dr. Rayi has nothing to disclose. Stroke Awareness In Outpatients. (P2.302)
CONCLUSIONS: General knowledge about CVRF is still insufficient in the outpatient population, even when assessed in the cardiology or neurology clinic. We believe that increased knowledge about stroke in outpatients, compared to inpatients, is due to higher educational level and a higher amount of family members with a history of stroke. Knowledge Regarding Oral Anticoagulation Therapy among Patients with Stroke and Those at High Risk of Thromboembolic Events (P6.241)
Conclusion- Patient’s knowledge about OAT was suboptimal. The findings support the need for educational interventions to improve the knowledge regarding oral anticoagulation therapy, and thereby achieve an appropriate and safe secondary prevention of stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Bhatia has nothing to disclose. Why Ischemic Stroke Patients Do Not Receive Thrombolytic Treatment? (P7.122)
CONCLUSIONS:This retrospective analysis suggests that less than half of the patients presenting within 4 hours of symptom onset receive rt-PA. The most common reason was minor or rapidly improving symptoms. A significant proportion of patients did not receive rt-PA because patient or family refused. Minority of patients had absolute contraindication. More patient and family education is needed to allay fears of rt-PA use.Disclosure: Dr. Lee has nothing to disclose.

Oral Anticoagulant Therapy Is Associated with Cerebral Microbleeds (I2-2.001)
Conclusions: OAT relates to both prevalent and incident microbleeds. Furthermore, maximum INR values and variability in INR are risk factors for microbleeds, particularly deep or infratentorial microbleeds.Study Supported by: Erasmus Medical Center;Research Institute for Diseases in the Elderly;Ministry of Education, Health,Welfare and Sports.Disclosure: Dr. Akoudad has nothing to disclose.
