Outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy at a single-centre tertiary level public healthcare hospital in South Africa
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated similar rates of recanalisation and functional independence to that seen in trials in high-income countries using basic imaging despite a higher mortality and longer median time to reperfusion. This data supports the effectiveness of MT in a tertiary level public hospital in South Africa despite the challenges of providing emergent stroke care in a resource-constrained setting.PMID:37259571 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231178163

Improved catheter delivery for aspiration thrombectomy using Tenzing 7 ledge reducing catheter and FreeClimb 70
CONCLUSIONS: Initial data support the use of Tenzing 7 with FreeClimb 70 catheter for reliable access to rapid, effective, and safe aspiration thrombectomy of large vessel occlusions.PMID:37246314 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231177754

Incidence of mechanical thrombectomy among stroke patients brought directly to a comprehensive stroke center versus transfer from a primary stroke center in upstate New York
CONCLUSION: Patients transferred from a PSC were more likely to have a worse outcome at time of discharge than those presenting directly to our center. Large volume of completed stroke was a frequent reason for exclusion from thrombectomy. Optimizing stroke protocols to CSC in cases of LVOs may result in better outcomes.PMID:37231646 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231177763

Acute carotid stenting plus aspirin during thrombectomy of tandem occlusions: A matched case-control study
CONCLUSIONS: Acute CAS plus Aspirin during thrombectomy for tandem occlusion stroke appears safe. Randomized trials are warranted to confirm these findings.PMID:37229632 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231175375

Optimization of collateral grading on computer tomography angiography
CONCLUSION: A dual-phase CTA is significantly similar to a mCTA assessment of collateral score and may be applied at community-based centers. Absolute or relative thresholds for torcula opacification may be used to identify poor bolus-scan timing thus preventing erroneous assumptions of poor collaterals on sCTA.PMID:37226428 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231176310

Hyperacute stenting and angioplasty for acute extracranial non-tandem internal carotid artery strokes within the first 48  h: A 20-year experience and a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Stenting and angioplasty for acute cervical ICA occlusive strokes during the hyperacute phase can be performed successfully with favorable clinical outcomes and an acceptable recanalization rate.PMID:37218164 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231164510

Identifying ex vivo acute ischemic stroke thrombus composition using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
CONCLUSION: Combination of EIS and machine learning can reliably predict the RBC composition of retrieved ex vivo AIS thrombi and then classify them into groups according to their RBC composition with good sensitivity and specificity.PMID:37192738 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231175377
