Targeting mitochondrial circadian rhythms: The potential intervention strategies of Traditional Chinese medicine for myocardial ischaemia ‒reperfusion injury
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 4;166:115432. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115432. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronary artery disease has one of the highest mortality rates in the country, and methods such as thrombolysis and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can effectively improve symptoms and reduce mortality, but most patients still experience symptoms such as chest pain after PCI, which seriously affects their quality of life and increases the incidence of adverse cardiovascular events (myocardial ischaemiareperfusion injury, MIRI). MIRI has been shown to be closely associated with circadian rhythm disorders and...

Intra-Operative Adjunctive Magnesium Sulfate in Pain Management of Total Knee Arthroplasty; a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: This study presents evidence at low to moderate levels supporting the use of intra-operative adjunctive magnesium sulfate in TKA for improved pain management and reduced opioid consumption. However, further research is needed to address the heterogeneity and to explore optimal dosing regimens and routes of administration to maximize the benefits of magnesium sulfate in TKA.PMID:37671273 | PMC:PMC10475748 | DOI:10.22037/aaem.v11i1.2058

Periosteal Nerve Block Vs. Intravenous Morphine in Pain Relief of Distal Radius and Ulna Fracture; a Double-Blind Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSION: In the first hour after the intervention, pain reduction in periosteal block was significantly higher than intravenous morphine administration. Also, the incidence of complications and the need for additional analgesia were lower in the periosteal block group compared to intravenous morphine administration.PMID:37671270 | PMC:PMC10475742 | DOI:10.22037/aaem.v11i1.2056

Personality in Chronic Headache: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: These results seem to confirm a "neurotic profile" in patients suffering from CH. The identification of the main personality traits involved in the onset and maintenance of headache disorders represents an important objective for developing psychological interventions.PMID:37671122 | PMC:PMC10477030 | DOI:10.1155/2023/6685372

Serratus anterior fascia plane block for pain control in patients with multiple rib fractures
Conclusion] We report the cases of three patients who completed respiratory physiotherapy after receiving intermittent SAP blocks for the management of pain due to multiple rib fractures. SAP blocks are associated with a low risk of complications as the ribs are not punctured while performing SAP blocks.PMID:37670765 | PMC:PMC10475645 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.673

Latent class symptom profiles of colorectal cancer survivors with cancer-related cognitive impairment
CONCLUSION: Our study adds to the information on interindividual variability in symptom experience of CRC survivors with cognitive impairment. Findings suggest a need for increased attention to screening for co-occurring symptoms (e.g., high pain) and future interventions focused on stress management and social support.PMID:37668747 | DOI:10.1007/s00520-023-08031-8

Recent Research Advances in Nano-Based Drug Delivery Systems for Local Anesthetics
Drug Des Devel Ther. 2023 Aug 30;17:2639-2655. doi: 10.2147/DDDT.S417051. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTFrom a clinical perspective, local anesthetics have rather widespread application in regional blockade for surgery, postoperative analgesia, acute/chronic pain control, and even cancer treatments. However, a number of disadvantages are associated with traditional local anesthetic agents as well as routine drug delivery administration ways, such as neurotoxicity, short half-time, and non-sustained release, thereby limiting their application in clinical practice. Successful characterization of drug delivery systems (DDSs) for i...
