Sauchinone from Saururus chinensis protects vascular inflammation by heme oxygenase-1 induction in human umbilical vein endothelial cells
In this study, we investigated the effect of sauchinone in suppressing cell adhesion molecules such as vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression in high glucose stimulated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Sauchinone inhibited the phosphorylation and degradation of IκB-α, as well as the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) p65 caused by the stimulation of high glucose. In addition, sauchinone induced heme oxygenase (HO)-1 expression through nuclear translocation of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 in HUVEC. The effects of sauch...

Anti-melanogenic effects of δ-tocotrienol are associated with tyrosinase-related proteins and MAPK signaling pathway in B16 melanoma cells
This study aimed to elucidate the mechanism involved in the anti-melanogenic effects of δ-tocotrienol (δT3) in B16 melanoma cells. Results showed that at 20μM of δT3 significantly inhibited melanin formation and ROS generation. Treatment with δT3 also effectively suppressed the expression of melanogenesis-related proteins, including MC1R, MITF, TYRP-1, and TYRP-2. More importantly, we observed that the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway was involved in mediating δT3's inhibitory effect against melanin production. Specifically, δT3 treatment markedly induced the activation of extracellular signal-regulat...

Curcumin is a biologically active copper chelator with antitumor activity
Conclusions This study therefore demonstrates curcumin antitumor effect to its copper chelation capability. These results also implicate copper chelation as a general mechanism for their action of some biologically active polyphenols like flavonoids. Graphical abstract

Resveratrol inhibits STAT3 signaling pathway through the induction of SOCS-1: Role in apoptosis induction and radiosensitization in head and neck tumor cells
Conclusion: Our results suggest that resveratrol blocks STAT3 signaling pathway through induction of SOCS-1, thus attenuating STAT3 phosphorylation and proliferation in SCCHN cells. Graphical abstract

Effect of dioscin on promoting liver regeneration via activating Notch1/Jagged1 signal pathway
Conclusions Dioscin, as a novel efficient γ-secretase activator, NICD1 nucleus translocation promoter and cell cycle regulator, markedly activated Notch1/Jagged1 pathway to promote hepato-proliferation. Our findings provide novel insights into dioscin as a natural product with facilitating liver regeneration after PH. Graphical abstract

A hybrid of coumarin and phenylsulfonylfuroxan induces caspase-dependent apoptosis and cytoprotective autophagy in lung adenocarcinoma cells
Conclusion : This results demonstrate that compound 8b induces caspase-dependent apoptosis as well as cytoprotective autophagy in lung adenocarcinoma cells, which may provide scientific evidence for developing this furoxan-based NO-releasing coumarin derivative as a potential anti-lung adenocarcinoma therapeutic agents. Graphical abstract

Reversal effect of quercetin on multidrug resistance via FZD7/ β-catenin pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma cells
Conclusion : Overall, these data suggested the effectiveness of using quercetin, at least in part, via inhibiting FZD7 to combat chemoresistance and showed that quercetin could be developed into an efficient natural sensitizer for resistant human hepatocellular carcinoma. Graphical abstract

Novel RAS inhibitor 25-O-methylalisol F attenuates epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and tubulo-interstitial fibrosis by selectively inhibiting TGF- β-mediated Smad3 phosphorylation
Conclusions MAF simultaneously targeted multiple RAS components and it was a novel RAS inhibitor. MAF inhibited EMT by Smad3-specific signaling in the TGF-β/Smad-dependent pathway and Wnt1/β-catenin pathway. MAF has an important effect on crosstalk between the TGF-β/Smad and Wnt/β-catenin pathway in EMT process by activation of RAS. Graphical abstract

In vitro inhibitory properties of sesquiterpenes from Chloranthus serratus on cell motility via down-regulation of LIMK1 activation in human breast cancer
Conclusion collectively, it was concluded that SERA exhibited significant inhibitory effects on breast cancer cells migration, and these effects of this sesquiterpene are due to its properties reducing the activation of LIM kinase 1. Graphical abstract
