Suicidal and Homicidal Thoughts as Psychotic Symptoms in an Adolescent: A Case Report
Turk Psikiyatri Derg. 2023 Fall;34(3):215-220. doi: 10.5080/u27015.ABSTRACTThe first episode of psychotic disorders often occurs in adolescence. Depressive symptoms are the most common symptoms in the prodromal period and the symptoms in this period are not specific to psychosis. Adolescence is a risky period in terms of suicidal behaviors. The risk of self-harm is further increased in the prodromal period and in the psychotic episode. Homicides in psychosis constitute a small part of all homicidal cases and homicidal thoughts have been associated with command hallucinations and delusions. In this article, an adolescent gi...

Intergenerational Transmission of Attachment between Incarcerated Mothers and Their Co-residing Children
CONCLUSION: Findings partially supported the discussion emphasizing that attachment transmission, as well as the mediating role of maternal sensitivity on this transmission, appeared to be weaker for disadvantaged mother-child dyads. Implications for future intervention programs aiming to support the attachment security and reduce the disorganization of children co-residing with their incarcerated mothers are discussed.PMID:37724643 | DOI:10.5080/u26647

The Mediating Role of Early Maladaptive Schemas in the Relationship between Temperament and Depressive Symptoms
CONCLUSION: The findings supported the idea suggested by the schema theory that the temperament traits affect EMSs. We believe that these findings can support studies towards depression-prevention as well as the treatment of depressive individuals. Even without interfering with temperament characteristics of individuals, depressive symptoms might be reduced by working only with some of the EMSs.PMID:37724642 | DOI:10.5080/u26316

Qualitative and Artificial Intelligence-Based Sentiment Analysis of Turkish Tweets Related to Schizophrenia
CONCLUSION: The results of this study showed that the Turkish tweets about schizophrenia, which were emotionally analyzed using artificial intelligence were found often to contain negative emotions. It was also seen that Twitter users used the term schizophrenia, not in a medical sense but to insult and make fun of individuals, frequently shared the news that patients were victims or perpetrators of violence, and the messages shared by professional branch organizations or mental health professionals were primarily for conveying information to the public.PMID:37724640 | DOI:10.5080/u26402

A Ruptured Cystic Echinococcosis in the Gallbladder and Intra/Extrahepatic Biliary Tract, Radiological and Surgical Imaging Findings
Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2023 Sep 18;47(3):200-203. doi: 10.4274/tpd.galenos.2023.65265.ABSTRACTCystic echinococcosis is a common parasitic infestation that can still cause serious complications in endemic areas. Intrabiliary rupture is a well-defined complication, but rupture into the gallbladder is rare. The disease may present with cholecystitis and cholangitis. Clinicians and radiologists working in the emergency room will find the management of the disease much easier if they become familiar with the clinical and radiological findings of the cyst. In this article, a 28-year-old male admitted to the emergency department...

Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2023 Sep 18;47(3):190-199. doi: 10.4274/tpd.galenos.2023.85698.ABSTRACTCats have an important and different place due to their close relationships with humans. Since most of the parasites they carry are zoonotic, it is important to detect them. According to the research, Dipylidium caninum, Joyeuxiella pasqualei, Toxocara spp., Toxascaris leonina, Giardia spp., Isospora spp., and Toxoplasma sp. were found to be higher in cats compared to other parasites. It has been determined that scabies and flea infestations are common as ectoparasites. This review aims to present the reported parasites and their...

Silicone hydrogel versus hydrogel soft contact lenses for differences in patient-reported eye comfort and safety
CONCLUSIONS: The overall evidence for a difference between all included silicone hydrogel and hydrogel SCLs was of very low certainty, with most trials at high overall risk of bias. The majority of studies did not assess comfort using a validated instrument. There was insufficient evidence to support recommending one SCL material over the other. For extended wear, hydrogel SCL may have a lower risk of adverse events at 52 weeks compared to silicon hydrogel. Future well-designed trials are needed to generate high certainty evidence to further clarify differences in SCL material comfort and safety.PMID:37724689 | PMC:PMC1050...

Long-term follow-up results of multiparametric prostate MRI and the prognostic value of PI-RADS: a single-center retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: The PI-RADS category has a significant impact on patient management and provides important diagnostic and prognostic information. Higher initial PI-RADS categories are associated with decreased follow-up losses, a shorter time to PCa diagnosis, increased biopsy rates, a higher likelihood of developing cs-PCa during follow-up, and a worse PCa prognosis. Combining mPSAD with PI-RADS categories could enhance diagnostic stratification in the identification of cs-PCa.PMID:37724756 | DOI:10.4274/dir.2023.232414
