Bilateral orthodontic extractions using physics versus conventional forceps among Indian patients
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):143-148. doi: 10.6026/97320630019143. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTIt is of interest to assess whether or not physics forceps are superior to traditional forceps for the extraction of premolar teeth in orthodontic procedures. Tooth and buccal bone fractures, as well as extraction time, lacerated gingiva, postoperative discomfort, and infection, were all measured in this research of both types of forceps extraction. Twenty individuals who need orthodontic extraction on both jaws were enrolled in the research. One arch's premolars were removed in two appointments, the first using Physics forceps...

Longitudinal lipidomic signature of carotid atherosclerosis in American Indians: Findings from the Strong Heart Family Study
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline and longitudinal changes in multiple lipid species were significantly associated with carotid atherosclerosis and its progression in American Indians. Some plaque-related lipid species were also associated with risk for CVD events.PMID:37722315 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.117265

Functional status, social support, and anxiety among postnatal women of Eastern India
CONCLUSION: After six weeks of childbirth, most women only partially resumed their pre-pregnancy functional state. So, much more time, rest, and support from family members were needed to recover to a fully functional level. Nurses, midwives, and the family members of women should be aware of the critical role that social support plays in enhancing a woman's functional and psychological status during the postpartum period.PMID:37720888 | PMC:PMC10502358 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100238

Awareness on passive smoking among Indian adults
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):10-13. doi: 10.6026/97320630019010. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAround one-third of adults worldwide regularly come into contact with passive smoking. In addition to many other health issues, non-smokers who are exposed to passive smoking at home or at work have a 20-30% higher risk of acquiring lung cancer. The current study set out to determine adult smokers' awareness of the hazards of passive smoking as well as the efficacy of an education campaign in raising that awareness. To finish the investigation, a pre-experimental research approach was employed. 60 adults between the ages of 18 an...

Sleep disorders and work-related stress with oral hygiene among Indian shift workers
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 1;19(1):69-73. doi: 10.6026/97320630019069. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTConstruction workers are mostly migrants from isolated villages and are not vigilant about health care measures besides poor language skills. Majority of the population works in shifts across the globe. As a result of poor sleep architecture, excessive sleepiness or insomnia, the construction labourers working in shifts have approximately twice the risk of OSA when compared with those working in the daytime. Likewise, the performance and the productivity of employees in construction sites are impeded by added stress. Therefore, it...

Diabetes linked oral complications in south Indian cohorts
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):85-87. doi: 10.6026/97320630019085. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTDiabetes is characterized by elevated blood sugar and insulin resistance. In poorly controlled or uncontrolled diabetes, persistent hyperglycemia causes oral and systemic problems. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate biochemical indicators for oral health and diabetes using a fully automatic biochemistry analyzer which separates patient serum from blood samples. Data shows that diabetic oral complex patients showed high RBS, HbA1c, FBS, and PBSS. Thus, dental condition is linked to diabetes.PMID:37720287 | PMC:PMC10504521 | ...

Case report on meningoenceplapathy in an Indian patient post CoViD vaccination
Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):117-119. doi: 10.6026/97320630019117. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe SARS-COV-2 infection-related severe illness is prevented by vaccinations. Therefore, it is relevant to report a case of post vaccine meningoencephalitis in a 30 year old male Indian patient, who presented with weakness in all the extremities, episodes of loose stool, fever, vomiting, tachypnea and loss of consciousness immediately following the 2nd dose of the COVID vaccination (COVAXIN).PMID:37720286 | PMC:PMC10504505 | DOI:10.6026/97320630019117

Ethnicity and risk factors among Indian coronary artery disease patients
In this study, an attempt was made to investigate the distribution of coronary risk factors in male patients with coronary artery disease (CAD)(n=50 each) belonging to Jaat and Vaishya castes. A Significantly higher average height, waist and hip circumferences, glucose, and waist-height ratio were observed in Jaats compared to the Vaishyas (p=0.000). Mean BMI, total cholesterol (total-C) and non-high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and lean body mass index (LBMI) were significantly higher in Vaishyas against Jaats (p=0.00). A significantly higher percentage of type 2 diabetes(T2DM) (p=0.03) and isolated hypertrigl...

Analysis of common allergens affecting patients with allergic rhinitis
This study aimed to identify the common allergens affecting patients with AR. A total of 52 patients with AR were identified for this study. AR was diagnosed based on the presenting symptoms and measurement of IgE levels and absolute eosinophil counts. Skin prick tests (SPT) were performed to identify the allergen sensitivity of the patients. Patient history, family history, and a detailed account of the symptoms were recorded. Finally, correlation between family history and allergy severity was statistically evaluated. All patients presented symptoms of rhinitis with sinusitis and 61.5% of these were mild or moderate alle...

Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):43-47. doi: 10.6026/97320630019043. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe medicinal herb Rauwolfia tetraphylla is utilized by South Indian tribes to treat various medical ailments, although its cytotoxicity action has not been studied. As a result, the emphasis of the current investigation is on the anticancer activity of Rauvolfia tetraphylla extracts on MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines, as well as their effects on the levels of gene expression for BCl2 and TGF. The study found that the anticancer activity of R. tetraphylla extract demonstrated significant cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 breast can...
