Survey on the working, training, and research conditions of resident physicians in internistic and rheumatological continuing education-BEWUSST
CONCLUSION: Half of the trainee rheumatologists are satisfied with their professional activities, although mentoring of the assistants in training should be further improved. With respect to the desired combined clinical and outpatient activity, the existing options should be expanded or new professional fields of activity should be established, so that the specialty remains attractive for the upcoming generations.PMID:37566120 | DOI:10.1007/s00393-023-01395-6

Does Surgeon Level of Expertise Correlate with Patient Outcomes?
Discussion The current Tang classification is both underreported and incomplete in its present state. To account for expertise bias, we recommend all authors report Tang level when describing surgical techniques. Studies with multiple authors should explicitly state the level of each author, as well as a weighted average accounting for the total contribution of each individual.PMID:37564627 | PMC:PMC10411241 | DOI:10.1055/s-0042-1757767

Primary Care Physician Leadership in Top Ranked US Hospitals
J Am Board Fam Med. 2023 Aug 9;36(4):682-684. doi: 10.3122/jabfm.2022.220371R1.ABSTRACTThis assessment of the "top hospitals" in the US according to 4 leading rankings reveals only 4 to 7% of represented CEOs are primary care physicians by training. Greater attention to leadership development from primary care residency through health system practice is needed to avoid diminishing primary care's critical role and salutary global benefits.PMID:37562839 | DOI:10.3122/jabfm.2022.220371R1

Supply and Demand for Radiation Oncologists in Canada: Workforce Planning Projections from 2020 to 2040
CONCLUSIONS: Demand for radiotherapy and radiation oncologists in Canada are expected to grow more quickly than future expansion in staffing levels. Our workforce planning model provides evidence for more trainee requirements to inform stakeholders of possible corrective actions to training programs and recruitment. Further research is needed to explore additional strategies to expand capacity and high-quality delivery of radiotherapy that meet the foreseeable rise in Canadian cancer patients.PMID:37562734 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.07.026

Diversity Audit of Medical School Examination Questions
This article reports the under-researched presentation of demographic, social, and economic diversity in medical school examination questions. Approach: The present study audited 3,566 pre-clinical and clinical multiple-choice and short answer examination questions in the same year (2018) from three medical schools in two continents to review the diversity of patients portrayed. The audit was based on an extension of Critical Race Theory beyond race and ethnicity to include pertinent social determinants of health. Findings: Patients were presented in 1,537 (43.1%) of the audited examination questions. Apart from age (89.4%...

Implementing and evaluating a diversity, equity, and inclusion resident recruitment strategy
CONCLUSION: A diverse residency program benefits patients, trainees, and the larger healthcare organization. In addition, incorporating DEI into resident recruitment is required by the new ASHP Accreditation Standard for postgraduate pharmacy residency programs effective July 1, 2023. Evaluation of our recruitment efforts demonstrated targeted recruitment as an effective strategy to increase the diversity of a residency program's applicants. There may be additional barriers not addressed by our interventions to be further explored.PMID:37556119 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxad179
