This study investigated whether taller Polish adults live longer than their shorter counterparts. Data on declared height were available from 848,860 individuals who died in the years 2004-2008 in Poland. To allow for the cohort effect, the Z-values were generated. Separately for both sexes, Pearson's r coefficients of correlation were calculated. Subsequently, one way ANOVA was performed. The correlation between adult height and longevity was negative and statistically significant in both men and women. After eliminating the effects of secular trends in height, the correlation was very weak (r = -0.0044 in men and ...

Frequent Transmission of Streptococcus pneumoniae Serotype 35B and 35D, Clonal Complex 558 Lineage, across Continents and the Formation of Multiple Clades in Japan
Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2023 Jan 18:e0108322. doi: 10.1128/aac.01083-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStreptococcus pneumoniae is a common bacterial pathogen that causes infections in children worldwide, even after administration of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. S. pneumoniae serotype 35B, especially the clonal complex 558 (CC558) lineage, has emerged globally following implementation of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. Serotype 35B strains are also associated with multidrug resistance to both β-lactams and non-β-lactam drugs. In addition, a novel serotype, 35D, which is closely related to 35B an...

Whole-genome analysis-based phylogeographic investigation of < em > Streptococcus pneumoniae < /em > serotype 19A sequence type 320 isolates in Japan
Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2021 Dec 20:AAC0139521. doi: 10.1128/AAC.01395-21. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAfter the introduction of the seven-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, the global spread of multidrug resistant serotype 19A-ST320 strains became a public health concern. In Japan, the main genotype of serotype 19A was ST3111, and the identification rate of ST320 was low. Although the isolates were sporadically detected in both adults and children, their origin remains unknown. Thus, by combining pneumococcal isolates collected in three nationwide pneumococcal surveillance studies conducted in Japan between 200...

Vaccination coverage in hematological patients undergoing chemotherapy: Should we move towards personalized vaccination?
CONCLUSION: Despite vaccination opportunities, the complexity of these specific recommendations and the lack of communication between the health actors could explain the suboptimal vaccination coverage in this high-risk population. A proactive attitude of all actors in the city and hospital, including better patient information and a personalized and evolving vaccination schedule to help GPs to coordinate vaccination would allow to improve vaccine coverage.PMID:34740475 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.10.040
