Impact of methotrexate treatment on vaccines immunogenicity in adult rheumatological patients - Lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Aug 3;165:115254. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115254. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDespite the development of new biological and synthetic targeted therapies, methotrexate remains one of the most commonly used immunomodulatory drugs in rheumatology. However, its effect on the immunogenicity of vaccines has been studied only to a limited extent until recently, resulting in the lack of clear guidelines on the use of methotrexate during vaccination. Significant progress was made during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the dynamic development of research on vaccines, including patients with autoimmune inf...

Biomaterial-based delivery platforms for transdermal immunotherapy
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jun 27;165:115048. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115048. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNowadays, immunotherapy is one of the most essential treatments for various diseases and a broad spectrum of disorders are assumed to be treated by altering the function of the immune system. For this reason, immunotherapy has attracted a great deal of attention and numerous studies on different approaches for immunotherapies have been investigated, using multiple biomaterials and carriers, from nanoparticles (NPs) to microneedles (MNs). In this review, the immunotherapy strategies, biomaterials, devices, and disea...

The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with viral hepatitis B infection: follow-up, compliance with antiviral treatment, and vaccine preferences
CONCLUSIONS: It was reported that elimination programs and interventions for HBV infection decreased or stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the present study, no newly diagnosed case of HBV infection was detected. Most of the patients had their follow-up visits disrupted. There were no patients who could not receive antiviral treatment, the vaccination rate of the patients was high, and the vaccines were well tolerated.PMID:37318505 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202306_32650

Hepatitis A seroprevalence and demographic risk factors in the susceptible population: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Socioeconomic development and immunization programs have altered HAV seroprevalence patterns. Planning catch-up vaccinations, especially in adolescents and young adults (born in 1994-2011) with low seropositivity and ensuring the continuity of hygiene and sanitation practices are important to protect the susceptible population.PMID:37318467 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202306_32610

Is the use of Tenofovir Dipivoxil fumarate effective and safe in preventing vertical transmission in pregnant women with chronic HBV with high viral load?
CONCLUSIONS: It has been observed that the use of TDF, which has a strong efficacy and high barrier, in the second and/or third trimester of pregnancy reduces transmission rates without causing side effects in both the mother and the newborn, thereby preventing vertical transmission of viral hepatitis B from the mother to child.PMID:36930508 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202303_31580

Dissolving Microneedle Arrays as a Hepatitis B Vaccine Delivery System Adjuvanted by APC-Targeted Poly (Lactic-co-Glycolic Acid) (PLGA) Nanoparticles
This study verifies the feasibility of soluble composited microneedles administration in hepatitis B immunization, and provides new ideas for the development and application of non-injectable vaccine delivery systems.PMID:36697935 | DOI:10.1208/s12249-022-02473-9

Seroconversion following Heplisav-B, hepatitis B vaccine (recombinant), adjuvanted, in patients with end-stage renal disease at an urban safety net hospital
CONCLUSION: Patients with ESRD who received three 20-μg doses of recombinant HBV vaccine had a seroconversion rate of 83%, representing a similar seroconversion rate and fewer doses of vaccine as compared to the standard HBV vaccine regimen for patients with ESRD.PMID:36681904 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxad022
