Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Cervical Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol). 2023 May 18:S0936-6555(23)00184-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clon.2023.05.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCervical Cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide. Treatment with chemoradiotherapy followed by brachytherapy achieves high local control, but recurrence with metastatic disease impacts survival. This highlights the need for predictive and prognostic biomarkers identifying populations at risk of poorer treatment response and survival. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is routinely used in cervical cancer and is a potential source for biomarkers. Functional MRI (fMRI) can characteris...

Multiparametric imaging guided HDR interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) boost in localized prostate cancer: a multidisciplinary experience
CONCLUSIONS: We present a real-life experience of biologically planned local dose escalation by interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) boost, followed by external beam radiotherapy in patients with intermediate unfavorable- or high/very high risk. The local control and the biochemical control rates are proved to be excellent and the toxicity profile tolerable.PMID:37203844 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202305_32327

Prevention of radiation-induced liver toxicity after interstitial HDR brachytherapy by pentoxifylline and ursodeoxycholic acid: patient compliance and outcome in a randomized trial
CONCLUSION: The study endpoint was not met mainly attributed to the low statistical power of the small per-protocol cohort. Independently, PTX cannot be recommended for the reduction of radiation-induced liver toxicity in oncologic patients undergoing HDR-BT of liver metastases. Further studies might focus on a combination of UDCA with other potential drugs to help establish a preventive and tolerable regimen.PMID:37166579 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-04832-w

The Influence of Patient and System Factors on the Radiotherapy Treatment Time in the Treatment of Non-metastatic Cervical Cancer Patients in a Rural and Resource-Lean State's Safety-Net Hospital: Benefits of Strategic Planning
Conclusion The RTT can be further decreased. As a result of this preliminary analysis of the our strategic planning approach of 'circular' "See it," "Own it," "Solve it," and "Do it" and go back to the first step again, we plan to implement the following strategies in the immediate future to shorten the RTTs further and, in turn, improve our overall outcomes (local/regional control, disease-free survival, and overall survival): (a) Interdigitate MRI-guided brachytherapy during external beam radiotherapy (EBRT); patients who can not get the interdigitated brachytherapy procedures performed during the course of EBRT for any ...

Development of a multi-purpose quality control phantom for MRI-based treatment planning in high-dose-rate brachytherapy of cervical cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This phantom is a promising useful tool for dosimetric and geometric quality assurance (QA) in MRI-based cervix BT.PMID:36970435 | PMC:PMC10034728 | DOI:10.5114/jcb.2023.125014

Safety and efficacy of single insertion accelerated MR-image guided brachytherapy following chemo-radiation in locally advanced cervix cancer: modifying our EMBRACE during the COVID pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated the utility of mIGABT and VMAT CRT in a small cohort with LACC. Loco-regional control was achieved in all cases with minimal emergent toxicity. Single insertion mIGABT was logistically efficient, cost-saving, and patient-centric during the COVID-19 pandemic.PMID:36941643 | DOI:10.1186/s13014-023-02240-5

Diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) for assessment of response to high-dose-rate CT-guided brachytherapy (HDR-BT) of hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSION: The tumor response after CT-guided HDR-BT was associated with a significantly higher increase in ADCmean and ADCmin in short- and long-term follow-up.PMID:36843430 | DOI:10.1177/02841851231154498
