Magnetic Resonance Imaging Detects Changes in Structure and Perfusion, and Response to Therapy in Early Cystic Fibrosis Lung Disease.
Conclusions: MRI detected abnormalities in lung structure and perfusion, and response to therapy for exacerbations in infants and preschool children with CF. rAAV-CFTRΔR Rescues the Cystic Fibrosis Phenotype in Human Intestinal Organoids and CF Mice.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides robust evidence that rAAV-mediated gene transfer of a truncated CFTR functionally rescues the CF phenotype across the nasal mucosa of CF mice and in patient-derived organoids. Increased Dead Space Ventilation Mediates Reduced Exercise Capacity in Systolic Heart Failure.
CONCLUSIONS: Low resting pulmonary diffusing capacity in heart failure is indicative of high dead-space ventilation during exercise, leading to excessive and inefficient ventilation. These findings would support the concept of pulmonary vasculopathy leading to altered ventilation perfusion matching (increased dead space) and resultant dyspnoea, independent of markers of cardiac function. Hypoxic Pulmonary Vasoconstriction Does Not Explain All Regional Perfusion Redistribution in Asthma.
CONCLUSIONS: Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction is not the only mechanism that contributes to perfusion redistribution in bronchoconstricted asthmatics suggesting that another, non-hypoxia mechanism, also contributes. We propose that this non-hypoxia mechanism may be either direct mechanical interactions and/or, unidentified inter-cellular signalling between constricted airways, the parenchyma and the surrounding vasculature.
