Direct Medical Costs of Four Vaccine-Preventable Infectious Diseases in Older Adults in Spain
CONCLUSION: The direct economic burden of herpes zoster, pneumococcal disease, influenza and pertussis in adults 45 years and older was high in Spain, and may be underestimated as it only considered medical assistance and not other applicable direct or indirect costs. After a relatively long gestation period, the business model for retail walk-in health clinics is becoming clear. The winner in the competition, in my opinion, will be the large drugstore chains like CVS and Walgreens. Chickenpox, shingles vaccine may cause corneal inflammation in some patients
(University of Missouri-Columbia) In use for more than 20 years, the varicella zoster virus vaccine for chickenpox and shingles is considered an essential medicine by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, researchers from the University of Missouri School of Medicine have found, in rare instances, a link between the vaccine and corneal inflammation. It is a finding the researchers say should be discussed by primary care physicians and patients with a history of eye inflammation before getting vaccinated.
