Multifactorial Rare Diseases: Can Uncertainty Analysis Bring Added Value to the Search for Risk Factors and Etiopathogenesis?
Abstract Uncertainty analysis is the process of identifying limitations in knowledge and evaluating their implications for scientific conclusions. Uncertainty analysis is a stable component of risk assessment and is increasingly used in decision making on complex health issues. Uncertainties should be identified in a structured way and prioritized according to their likely impact on the outcome of scientific conclusions. Uncertainty is inherent to the rare diseases (RD) area, where research and healthcare have to cope with knowledge gaps due to the rarity of the conditions; yet a systematic approach toward uncerta...

Physician assistant admissions committees can be tough to please.   A reader emailed us this week with a question about it: Hey, guys.  After exploring your site, I'm convinced that PA is a better fit for me than MD.  My question is: how does one convince a physician assistant admissions committee?  Any help in the matter [...]The postPhysician Assistant Admissions Committees: What They Search For appeared first onInside PA Training.

Academic job search
I'm currently in the process of job search/application for an academic position. As you can imagine, the timelines at different institutions are slightly different, so while I've finished interviews at some places, I'm just starting them at other places. I've received term sheets (supposedly non-binding) for some institutions, and there's a deadline for me to sign them. I'm not quite sure if I want to 100% commit to these places yet since I still have a few more interviews going on. So, it... Read more

Academic versus private, tips on job search
Could people please comment on how they chose academic vs private practice within the realm of sports med? What is the job market like for academic vs private, specifically for someone who does *not* want to do spine or see chronic pain? Lastly, are there better ways to approach the job search than emailing physician recruiters? This has been frustrating for me, as I craft thoughtful emails and get zero response. Thank you for any insights.

Will Search and Destroy method work on DAT?
I had originally planned on reading about 3-4 paragraphs at a time then going through the questions to answer what I could from those paragraphs. Using Crack DAT Reading, this worked fine and I was able to finish one passage and the questions in ~15 minutes. Unfortunately, I just tried DAT Bootcamp's RC, and it just doesn't seem to work as well. I tried Search and Destroy (reading the question and searching for the answer), and I was able to finish a passage and questions in 20 minutes... Read more

Job search etiquette
Navigating the job search for the first time as a new grad What's the etiquette regarding number of interviews/contracts/recruiters to pursue? Should I get multiple contracts in hand and compare them? Talk to multiple recruiters at the same time? At the moment I have 3 job site interviews lined up for the next few weeks. Is this a no-no? I feel dirty.

5 Tips to Stay Up-to-Date with Medical Literature
There is an old saying: "How do you eat in elephant? In small bites." The same rule probably applies to staying current with the ever expanding avalanche of medical literature. You can try the following approach: 1. RSS Feeds for Journals. Subscribe to the RSS feeds of the "Big Five" medical journals (NEJM, JAMA, BMJ, Lancet and Annals) plus 2-3 subpecialty journals in your field of interest. Any of the many RSS readers would do. I use RSS Owl. PeRSSonalized Medicine by Webicina.com was one of the first services to arrange the medical journal feeds in a visually appealing way and make RSS consumption user-friendly. ...

Concomitant Guillain-Barr é Syndrome and COVID-19: A Meta-Analysis of Cases
Conclusions: A gap of knowledge exists regarding the complete spectrum of clinical characteristics of COVID-19-related GBS. Recent findings suggest that SARS-CoV-2 triggers GBS, as it follows a similar para-infectious pattern as the other viral agents contributing to the onset of GBS.PMID:36557036 | PMC:PMC9788175 | DOI:10.3390/medicina58121835
