Cytokine-induced killer cell treatment is superior to chemotherapy alone in esophageal cancer
Conclusion: Based on the available evidence, we concluded that CIK cell treatment is superior to CT alone, but CIK-CT and DC-CIK+CT may be comparable in treating EC. However, comparing CIK-CT and DC-CIK+CT is only based on indirect evidence, so it is undoubtedly necessary to conduct studies to compare CIK-CT with DC-CIK+CT in EC patients directly.PMID:37342361 | PMC:PMC10277884 | DOI:10.3389/pore.2023.1610710

Immune Response and Immune Checkpoint Molecules in Patients with Rectal Cancer Undergoing Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy: A Review
Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2023 May 22;45(5):4495-4517. doi: 10.3390/cimb45050285.ABSTRACTIt is well-established that tumor antigens and molecules expressed and secreted by cancer cells trigger innate and adaptive immune responses. These two types of anti-tumor immunity lead to the infiltration of the tumor's microenvironment by immune cells with either regulatory or cytotoxic properties. Whether this response is associated with tumor eradication after radiotherapy and chemotherapy or regrowth has been a matter of extensive research through the years, mainly focusing on tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and monocytes and their sub...

Challenges in synergizing radiotherapy with immunotherapy to unlock the abscopal effect in metastatic NSCLC: A systematic review
DISCUSSION: Early work combining radiotherapy with immunotherapy show promise in unlocking the abscopal effect. Preliminary evidence suggests that radiotherapy regimens with <5 fractions and smaller fields may be superior to regimens with 15 fractions and larger fields. There does not appear to be enough evidence to draw conclusions about the optimal timing of radiotherapy in relation to immunotherapy or the optimal anatomical location of radiation to induce the abscopal effect. Several studies suggest selecting patients with a higher absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) and lower neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) may hel...
