Oxidative stress responses and their alterations in the Nrf2-NMDA receptor pathway in the brain of suicide victims
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between oxidative stress progression, Nrf2 regulation, and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA) subunit composition in the hippocampus (Hp) and frontal cortex (FCx) of suicide victims (n=14) and matched controls (n=8). Furthermore, zinc and magnesium concentrations and their potency to inhibit [3H] MK-801 (radioactively labeled form of MK-801 - dizocilpine, a well-characterized NMDAR channel uncompetitive antagonist frequently used in receptor-binding assays) binding to NMDA receptor channels were measured. Our results revealed a statistically significant increase in protein...

Periconceptional intakes of methyl donors and other micronutrients involved in one-carbon metabolism may further reduce the risk of neural tube defects in offspring: a United States population-based case-control study of women meeting the folic acid recommendations
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings support that NTD prevention, in the context of folic acid fortification, could be augmented with intakes of methyl donors and other micronutrients involved in folate metabolism.PMID:37661108 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2023.05.034

Magnetic signature and X-ray fluorescence for mapping trace elements in soils originating from basalt and sandstone
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 1:140028. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140028. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe knowledge of the lithological context is necessary to interpret trace elements concentrations in the soil. Soil magnetic signature (χ) and soil X-ray fluorescence (XRF) are promising approaches in the study of the spatial variability of trace elements and the environmental monitoring of soil quality. This research aimed to assess the efficiency of measurements of χ and XRF sensors for spatial characterization of zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), and copper (Cu) contents in soils of a sandstone-basalt transitional environmen...
