Determination of cefuroxime in breast milk by LC-MS/MS using SALLME technique
In this study, we aimed to develop the LC-MS/MS method using salt-assisted liquid-liquid micro-extraction (SALLME) for the determination of cefuroxime in breast milk. The method was validated according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guidelines. Cefuroxime and the internal standard cefixime were extracted from plasma by a SALLME technique. The results obtained from the entire validation study are at an acceptable level according to the EMA criteria. The calibration curve of cefuroxime was between 25 and 1000 ng/ml, with correlation coefficients of >0.99. The lower limit of quantitation was 25 ng/ml for cefuroxime...

Systematic review and meta-analysis of iodine nutrition in modern vegan and vegetarian diets
Br J Nutr. 2023 Mar 13:1-43. doi: 10.1017/S000711452300051X. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVegan and vegetarian diets are widely supported and adopted, but individuals following such diets remain at greater risk of iodine deficiency. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to assess the iodine intake and status in adults following a vegan or vegetarian diet in the modern day. A systematic review and quality assessment were conducted from October 2020-December 2022 according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and Meta-analysis of Observational Studies in Epidemiolog...

Ataluren and similar compounds (specific therapies for premature termination codon class I mutations) for cystic fibrosis
CONCLUSIONS: There is currently insufficient evidence to determine the effect of ataluren as a therapy for people with CF with class I mutations. One trial reported favourable results for ataluren in a post hoc subgroup analysis of participants not receiving chronic inhaled aminoglycosides, but these were not reproduced in the later trial, suggesting that the earlier results may have occurred by chance. Future trials should carefully assess for adverse events, notably renal impairment, and consider the possibility of drug interactions. Cross-over trials should be avoided, given the potential for the treatment to change the...
