School-based supplementation with iron-folic acid or multiple micronutrient tablets to address anemia among adolescents in Burkina Faso: a cluster-randomized trial
CONCLUSIONS: Results do not provide strong evidence that weekly IFA or daily MMS supplementation alone is effective, but supplementation may play a role in addressing adolescent anemia if combined with co-interventions. Additional research is required to determine the best strategy to address anemia.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04657640 TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT04657640, registered December 8, 2020.PMID:37716443 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2023.09.004

The prevalence and multilevel analysis of minimum dietary diversity intake and its determinants among 6-23  months old infants in The Gambia: further analysis of the Gambian demographic and health survey data

Vitamin A biomarkers were associated with AGP and CRP over the course of a human norovirus challenge infection
Br J Nutr. 2023 Sep 11:1-19. doi: 10.1017/S0007114523002076. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRetinol binding protein (RBP) is used as a proxy for retinol in population-based assessments of vitamin A deficiency (VAD) for cost-effectiveness and feasibility. When the cutoff of <0.7 mol/L for retinol is applied to RBP to define VAD, an equivalence of the two biomarkers is assumed. Evidence suggests that the relationship between retinol and RBP is not 1:1, particularly in populations with a high burden of infection or inflammation. The goal of this analysis was to longitudinally evaluate the retinol:RBP ratio over one month of...

Trends of height-for-age Z-scores according to age among Brazilian children under 5 years old from 2006 to 2019
This study compared the distribution of stunting and height-for-age (HAZ) Z-scores among age groups in data from the Brazilian National Survey on Demography and Health of Women and Children (PNDS 2006) and the Brazilian National Survey on Child Nutrition (ENANI-2019). The final sample comprised 4,408 and 14,553 children < 59 months of age in the PNDS 2006 and ENANI-2019, respectively. Children with HAZ scores < -2 according to the World Health Organization (WHO) growth standard were classified as stunted. Prevalence, 95% confidence intervals (95%CI), means, and standard deviations were estimated for Brazil and accord...

Omega-3 nanoemulgel in prevention of radiation-induced oral mucositis and its associated effect on microbiome: a randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Topical Omega-3 nanoemulgel demonstrated a beneficial effect in prevention of radiation-induced oral mucositis with a possibility of regulating oral microbial dysbiosis.PMID:37648997 | DOI:10.1186/s12903-023-03276-5
