Liberal vs. restricted opioid prescribing following midurethral sling dataset
This study was registered on clinicaltrials.gov (NCT04277975). Women undergoing isolated MUS by a Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery physician at a Penn State Health hospital from June 1, 2020 to November 22, 2021 were offered enrollment into this prospective, randomized, open-label, non-inferiority clinical trial. Participants gave informed consent and were enrolled by a member of the study team. Allocation was concealed to patient and study personnel until randomization on the day of surgery. Preoperatively, all participants completed baseline demographic and pain surveys including CSI-9, PCS, and Likert p...

The Macro View – Health, Economics, and Politics and the Big Picture. What I Am Watching Here And Abroad.
August 04, 2022 Edition-----The war seems to grind on sadly and Pres. Biden is having a second round with COVID as unprecedented weather happens all over the US. It all feels rather like ‘the end of days’!In the UK we see an increasing chance of a third female PM being elected as the country seems to be struggling. We do need to remember however the UK remains a significant power with nuclear weapons and home-grown nuclear submarines! In OZ we have had last week working out how to progress the First Nations ‘Voice’ as we wrap up the 1st session of Parliament for the new Government. Comments welcome on how you think ...

The Association between Consumption of Dairy-Originated Digestion Resistant and Bioactive Peptides and Breast Cancer Risk: A Case-Control Study
Nutr Cancer. 2022 Jan 20:1-10. doi: 10.1080/01635581.2021.2009884. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBioactive peptides (BPs) content of dairy products is suggested to be a significant ingredient for reducing breast cancer (BC) risk. There is no observational study regarding the correlation between BPs and the risk of chronic disease because BPs' content of food items has not been evaluated in any study. The goal of the current study was to assess the association of dairy-originated BPs with BC risk. One hundred thirty-four women with BC and 267 cancer-free controls were selected from referral hospitals in Tehran, Iran. The de...

Genome-based studies indicate that the < em > Enterococcus faecium < /em > Clade B strains belong to < em > Enterococcus lactis < /em > species and lack of the hospital infection associated markers
Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2021 Aug;71(8). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.004948.ABSTRACTEnterococcus lactis and the heterotypic synonym Enterococcus xinjiangensis from dairy origin have recently been identified as a novel species based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. Enterococcus faecium type strain NCTC 7171T was used as the reference genome for determining E. lactis and E. faecium to be separate species. However, this taxonomic classification did not consider the diverse lineages of E. faecium, and the double nature of hospital-associated (clade A) and community-associated (clade B) isolates. Here, we investigated the taxonom...

Molecular Polymorphism of β-Galactosidase LAC4 Genes in Dairy and Natural Strains of Kluyveromyces Yeasts
Mol Biol (Mosk). 2021 Jan-Feb;55(1):75-85. doi: 10.31857/S0026898421010109.ABSTRACTThe ability to ferment lactose is a characteristic peculiarity of dairy Kluyveromyces lactis yeasts; the vast majority of other yeast species are not able to assimilate this disaccharide. Molecular polymorphism of LAC4 genes encoding β-galactosidase controlling lactose fermentation is not well studied, and the published data concern only a single strain (K. lactis var. lactis NRRL Y-1140) isolated from cream in the United States. We studied β-galactosidase genes in lactose-fermenting К lactis strains isolated from dairy products and natur...
