Determinants of lipid-lowering medication prescribing in a multi-ethnic adult population diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolaemia in South London
CONCLUSION: The study suggests important determinants of lipid-lowering prescribing in an ethnically diverse adult population included older age, male sex, hypertension, and diabetes. Ethnicity showed no significant associations with lipid-lowering prescribing after adjusting for other determinants including deprivation measures.PMID:37479297 | DOI:10.3399/bjgp23X734145

Associations between education level, blood-lipid measurements and statin treatment in a Danish primary health care population from 2000 to 2018
CONCLUSION: Higher education was associated with earlier statin prescription, although the higher educated group was monitored less frequently. There was no difference in reaching treatment goal between the three education groups. These findings suggest patients with higher education level achieve an earlier dyslipidemia prevention intervention with an equally satisfying result compared to lower education patients.Key PointsLittle is known about the role of social inequality as a possible barrier for managing hypercholesterolemia in general practice.Increasing education level was associated to less frequent measurement and...

Pharmacological Treatment of Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Patients With Coronary Artery Disease in the Real World of General Practice
Front Pharmacol. 2022 Mar 24;13:858385. doi: 10.3389/fphar.2022.858385. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTType 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) severely increases the probability of developing coronary artery disease (CAD), and diabetic patients with CAD should be considered at very high cardiovascular risk. The complexity of this clinical scenario makes very hard the appropriateness of the pharmacological treatment in the real world. To investigate the implementation of guideline recommendations for the treatment of patients affected by CAD with or without T2DM, a retrospective observational study was carried out between 2018 and 2020, ...

Tolerability of statin-based management of patients with a history of statin-associated muscle symptoms: protocol for a systematic review
Introduction Statin-associated muscle symptoms (SAMSs) are a major clinical issue in the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events. Current guidelines advise various approaches mainly based on expert opinion. We will lead a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the tolerability and acceptability and effectiveness of statin-based therapy management of patients with a history of SAMS. We aim to provide evidence on the tolerability and different strategies of statin-based management of patients with a history of SAMS. Methods and analysis We will conduct a systematic review of randomised controlled t...

Feasibility of improving identification of familial hypercholesterolaemia in general practice: intervention development study
Conclusions The intervention is feasible to implement in GP, and facilitates recruitment of patients with raised cholesterol for targeted assessment and identification of FH. Extracting data directly from electronic records could be used to evaluate relevant outcome measures in a future trial.

Changes in metabolic parameters in patients with severe mental illness over a 10-year period: A retrospective cohort study.
CONCLUSION: Increasing body mass index relates to increasing rates of dysglycaemia over time. Measures to encourage weight reduction should be key strategies to reduce dysglycaemia rates in severe mental illness. Prescribing statins may have been effective in improving the lipid profile in this group. PMID: 26769981 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
