Enhanced Induction of Apoptosis and Cell Cycle Arrest in MCF-7 Breast Cancer and HT-29 Colon Cancer Cell Lines via Low-Dose Biosynthesis of Selenium Nanoparticles Utilizing Lactobacillus casei
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Jul 1. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03738-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs a leading global cause of mortality, cancer continues to pose a significant challenge. The shortcomings of prevalent cancer treatments, such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, necessitate the exploration of alternative therapeutic strategies. Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) have emerged as a promising solution, with their synthesis being widely researched due to their potential applications. Among the diverse synthesis methods for SeNPs, the green chemistry approach holds a distinctive position within nanotechnol...

Lycium barbarum polysaccharide-glycoprotein ameliorates ionizing radiation-induced epithelial injury by regulating oxidative stress and ferroptosis via the Nrf2 pathway
In conclusion, we demonstrated that LBP attenuates ionizing radiation-induced oral mucosa injury by reducing oxidative stress and inhibiting ferroptosis via the Nrf2 signaling pathway. LBP may be a promising medical countermeasure against RIOM.PMID:37119863 | DOI:10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2023.04.020

Pixantrone confers radiosensitization in KRAS mutated cancer cells by suppression of radiation-induced prosurvival pathways
Free Radic Biol Med. 2022 Aug 12:S0891-5849(22)00537-8. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2022.08.015. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRadioresistance towards radiation therapy has generated the need for the development of radiosensitizers as a potential drug. The KRAS mutation brings radioresistance in tumor cells. The present work proves the sensitization of cancer cells towards radiotherapy through inhibition of KRAS activation. Acquiring a drug repurposing approach, the in-silico screening revealed that pixantrone, an antineoplastic drug, possesses a high affinity towards KRAS G12C and G12D subtypes. The SPR study suggests th...

Diallyl trisulfide sensitizes radiation therapy on glioblastoma through directly targeting thioredoxin 1
Free Radic Biol Med. 2022 Jul 31:S0891-5849(22)00502-0. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2022.07.019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRadiotherapy is a standard-of-care treatment approach for glioblastoma (GBM) patients, but therapeutic resistance to radiotherapy remains a major challenge. Here we demonstrate that diallyl trisulfide (DATS) directly conjugates with cysteine (C) 32 and C35 (C32/35) residues of thioredoxin 1 (Trx1) through Michael addition reactions. Due to localizing in activity center of Trx1, the conjugation between DATS and C32/35 results in inhibition of Trx1 activity, therefore disturbing thioredoxin system a...

Proton minibeam radiation therapy: a promising therapeutic approach for radioresistant tumors
C R Biol. 2021 Dec 20;344(4):409-420. doi: 10.5802/crbiol.71.ABSTRACTProton minibeam radiation therapy (pMBRT) is a novel cancer therapy approach based on a high spatial dose modulation. pMBRT activates distinct radiobiological mechanisms and it has been shown to lead in small animal experiments to a significant increase in normal tissue dose tolerances while maintaining or enhancing tumor control effectiveness as compared with conventional radiotherapy. Although recently proposed, the biological observations collected thus far challenge the classical paradigm in RT and encourage the preparation of phase I clinical trials....
