Graft Failure After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Its Association With Patient Characteristics and Clinical Events: A Pooled Individual Patient Data Analysis of Clinical Trials With Imaging Follow-Up
CONCLUSIONS: In contemporary practice, graft failure remains common among patients undergoing CABG and is strongly associated with adverse cardiac events.PMID:37417248 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.123.064090

Ultrasound examination of the carotid artery for improved prediction of cardiovascular events and the effect of statin treatment in advanced atherosclerosis : An observational study
CONCLUSION: The prediction of cardiovascular events was better with plaque burden measurements than with the PROCAM score. Treatment with statins in subjects with advanced carotid atherosclerosis (types III-IV b findings on ultrasound) significantly improved the prognosis in a nonrandomized observational study.PMID:37402837 | DOI:10.1007/s00059-023-05197-z

Investigation of Combined Carotid Endarterectomy and Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Outcomes and Adverse Event Risk Factors in the Vascular Quality Initiative
CONCLUSIONS: Combined CEA and CABG provides excellent long-term mortality prevention in patients with co-existing severe coronary and carotid atherosclerosis. Simultaneous CEA and CABG provides equivalent stroke prevention and long-term survival to both a cohort of patients undergoing coronary revascularization within 5 years of CEA and patients undergoing isolated CEA or CABG in the literature. The two most impactful modifiable risk factors towards long-term stroke and mortality prevention for patients undergoing simultaneous CEA-CABG are patch placement at CEA site and adherence to statin medication therapy.PMID:37303074...

SARS-CoV-2 infection-related deregulation of blood lipids in a patient with -/-LDLR familial homozygous hypercholesterolemia: A case report
We report a case of a 43-year-old male patient with -/-LDLR HoFH with previous history of premature coronary artery disease, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and surgical repair of aortic valve stenosis. He presented with an abrupt decrease of his blood lipid levels during acute infection with SARS-CoV2 and subsequently a rebound increase above pre-infection levels, refractory to treatment including LDL-apheresis, statin, ezetimibe and lomitapide up-titration to maximum tolerated doses. Markers of liver stiffness were closely monitored, increased at 9 months and decreased at 18 months after the infection. Potential inte...

Pathophysiology and Mechanisms of Saphenous Vein Graft Failure
CONCLUSION: The interaction between the different parts of the pathophysiology of vein graft failure is extremely complex and variable. Recent improvements in surgical techniques and secondary pharmaceutical prevention like early aspirin administration and long-term statin treatment have significantly reduced early and late saphenous vein graft failure. However, this continues to be a fascinating area of research with the potential for further improvement for patients and health service provision.PMID:36053999 | DOI:10.21470/1678-9741-2022-0133

Influence of cholesterol level on long-term survival and cardiac events after surgical coronary revascularization
CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to elevated LDL-C and non-HDL-C cholesterol levels independently predicted long-term cardiac death after coronary artery bypass graft.PMID:36004261 | PMC:PMC9390627 | DOI:10.1016/j.xjon.2022.02.022

Adherence to secondary prevention recommendations after coronary artery bypass graft surgery
CONCLUSION: In this patient population, adherence to medication and control of risk factors is acceptable. However, there is room for improvement in terms of attendance at cardiac rehab (59%) and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle post-CABG.PMID:36002669 | DOI:10.1007/s11845-022-03129-0

PCSK9 and Cardiovascular Disease in Individuals with Moderately Decreased Kidney Function
Conclusions: Our findings reveal no relation of PCSK9 with baseline eGFR and albuminuria, but a significant association between higher PCSK9 concentrations and risk of cardiovascular disease independent of traditional risk factors including LDL-cholesterol levels.PMID:35387881 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.01230122

Impact of Conventional Cardiovascular Risk Factors on Left Internal Mammary Artery Graft Disease
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative smoking and hyperglycemia without diabetes had an increased risk of LIMA graft stenosis. Statin use and LDL-C <1.8 mmol/L decreased the risk.PMID:35096986 | PMC:PMC8795621 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2021.705765
