Mixed Origins: HIV gp120-specific memory develops from pre-existing memory and na ïve B cells following vaccination in humans
AIDS Res Hum Retroviruses. 2023 Feb 10. doi: 10.1089/AID.2022.0104. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe most potent and broad HIV envelope (Env)-specific antibodies often when reverted to their inferred germline versions representing the naïve B cell receptor, fail to bind Env suggesting that the initial responding B cell population is not exclusively comprised of a naïve population, but also a pre-existing cross-reactive antigen-experienced B cell pool that expands following Env exposure. Previously we isolated gp120-reactive monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) from participants in HVTN 105, an HIV vaccine trial. Using deep sequ...

Chronic medical conditions associated with invasive pneumococcal diseases in inpatients in teaching hospitals in S ão Paulo city: Estimating antimicrobial susceptibility and serotype-coverage of pneumococcal vaccines
CONCLUSION: Vaccine with expanded valence of serotypes is necessary to offer broad prevention to IPD. The present data contribute to pneumococcal vaccination public health policies for vulnerable patients, mainly those with comorbidity and the elderly.PMID:36758625 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjid.2023.102746

COVID-19 vaccination in people living with HIV: current data and perspectives
AIDS Rev. 2022;24(4):173-182. doi: 10.24875/AIDSRev.22000017.ABSTRACTThere is no correlation between HIV per se and other risk factors for severe COVID-19 disease. Pivotal studies have shown that vaccination is one of the effective ways to prevent severe COVID-19 illness in the general population. Studies on people living with HIV (PLWH) are scarce. The majority of these studies with mRNA (BNT126b2 and mRNA-1273) and adenovirus vector (Ad26.COV2.2 and ChAdOx1) vaccines with a low number of patients included shows that PLWH on antiretroviral treatment and with CD4 count > 200/mm³ has a robust immune response. These vacc...

The role of nurses in the prevention of anal cancer in HIV-infected men having sex with men - a focus on papillomavirus vaccination and anal cytology screening
AIDS Rev. 2022;24(4):162-165. doi: 10.24875/AIDSRev.M22000053.ABSTRACTAnal cancer is a common disease in men who have sex with men (MSM) with HIV infection and is associated with human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, which is very prevalent in this population. Advanced anal cancer has an aggressive treatment, with a high risk of producing an impaired quality of life. In cases of late diagnosis, mortality remains elevated. Based on these findings, it is a priority to carry out a systematic screening to detect earlier and prevent the disease. In this review and based in our experience at the Infectious Diseases outclinic at...
