Molecular imaging of the brain –heart axis provides insights into cardiac dysfunction after cerebral ischemia
AbstractIschemic stroke imparts elevated risk of heart failure though the underlying mechanisms remain poorly described. We aimed to characterize the influence of cerebral ischemic injury on cardiac function using multimodality molecular imaging to investigate brain and cardiac morphology and tissue inflammation in two mouse models of variable stroke severity. Transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAo) generated extensive stroke damage (56.31  ± 40.39 mm3). Positron emission tomography imaging of inflammation targeting the mitochondrial translocator protein (TSPO) revealed localized neuroinflammation at 7 days ...

The relationship between vertebrobasilar artery calcification and intracranial atherosclerosis-related occlusion in thrombectomy
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that VBAC is an independent risk factor for ICAS-O in patients who underwent thrombectomy. Patients free of atrial fibrillation with VBAC have more trend to be ICAS-O.PMID:36267885 | PMC:PMC9577291 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2022.965362

Aortic arch plaque morphology in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing coronary computed tomography angiography with wide-volume scan
Conclusion CTCA-WVS provides a comprehensive assessment of coronary atherosclerosis and thoracic aortic plaques in patients with CAD, which may improve the stratification of patients at risk for CV events.

Ocular Migraine With Amaurosis Fugax of the Left Eye: A Case Report
Cureus. 2022 Aug 22;14(8):e28272. doi: 10.7759/cureus.28272. eCollection 2022 Aug.ABSTRACTIn amaurosis fugax, there is a sudden loss of vision in one eye. Patients gain their vision after a few minutes. The most common underlying cause is atherosclerosis of the internal carotid artery. Other underlying causes include vasospasm of the internal carotid artery, which leads to hypoperfusion and is seen in vasculitis, ocular migraines, and systemic lupus erythematosus. In this case study, a 44-year-old male with a past medical history of migraine with aura presented to the emergency room with transient vision loss in the left e...

Outcomes of descending and thoracoabdominal aortic repair in connective tissue disorder patients
CONCLUSIONS: In dedicated units, open surgical DTAA and TAAA repair in patients with CTD can be performed with a very low risk of death, severe complications and, late re-intervention. For CTD patients with reasonable risk, OSR should remain the first line of treatment.PMID:36151718 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2022.2125174

Dynamic changes of carotid atherosclerosis and their relations with stroke recurrence in patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack
CONCLUSION: Plaque progression occurred in 46% of stroke or TIA patients. Plaque progression was significantly associated with clinical stroke recurrence. Plaque regressed in 6.5% of patients. Patients with regression were younger than those without.PMID:35996235 | DOI:10.2174/1567202619666220822141804

Prognosis of ischemia recurrence in patients with moderate intracranial atherosclerotic disease using quantitative MRA measurements
CONCLUSIONS: This is an effectiveness study to determine whether blood flow measurements in the intracranial vasculature may be predictive of future ischemic events. Our results demonstrated significant correlation between the blood flow measurements using 2D PCMR processed with the NOVA software and the reoccurrence of ischemia. These results support further investigation for using this method for risk stratification of ICAD patients.PMID:35992046 | PMC:PMC9390076 | DOI:10.1117/12.2611462
