Midterm Outcomes of a Prospective, Nonrandomized Study to Evaluate Endovascular Repair of Complex Aortic Aneurysms Using Fenestrated-Branched Endografts
Conclusion: FB-EVAR is safe and effective for treatment of PRA and TAAAs with low rate of aortic-related mortality and aneurysm rupture on midterm follow-up.

Short Term Outcomes of Distal Extended EndoVascular Aortic Repair (DEEVAR) Petticoat in Acute and Subacute Complicated Type B Aortic Dissection
CONCLUSION: The present findings suggest that the DEEVAR PETTICOAT procedure provides effective sealing of all distal tears without increased risk of major peri-procedural complications. Further studies with larger number of patients and longer follow up are needed to confirm the safety and durability of this technique.PMID:34301462 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.05.044

Postoperative atrial fibrillation in paraesophageal hernia repair: can it be prevented?
We report the case of an 85-year-old female with a history of untreated hypertension (HTN) and no prior history of AF, who presented 5 days after an elective repair of a paraesophageal hernia with recurrence of a large type III paraesophageal hiatal hernia, AF, and subsequent acute thromboembolic ischemic stroke. Patient ’s AF resolved shortly after treatment with calcium channel blocker. The risk of stroke is high in patients who develop AF and a period of 48 h after onset of AF is usually considered safe as the risk of stroke is low in this time period. However, this may not be the case during the perioperativ e peri...

Longitudinal Gastrectomy for Nonbariatric Indications
CONCLUSION: LLG seems to be an appropriate intervention for various gastric pathologies. Training of residents and fellows in the minimally invasive surgical steps of LLG is encouraged.PMID:34035960 | PMC:PMC8124009 | DOI:10.1155/2021/9962130

Endovascular Solutions for Aortic Arch Diseases: Total and Hybrid
Surg Technol Int. 2021 May 17;38:sti38/1415. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough the endovascular approach is the therapeutic option of choice for thoracic and abdominal aortic diseases, open surgery is still the treatment of choice for aortic arch diseases. While open surgical repair remains the gold standard treatment for complete aortic arch replacement, it continues to be burdened by high mortality and neurologic complications, especially for patients who require redo surgery. Therefore, in the era of endovascular surgery, it is not surprising that hybrid operating rooms, new technologies, and new approaches are str...

Pre-sewn Multi-branched Aortic Graft and 3D-Printing Guidance for Crawford Extent II or III Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair
Semin Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2021 May 7:S1043-0679(21)00194-5. doi: 10.1053/j.semtcvs.2021.03.046. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTReconstruction of the visceral and segmental arteries is a challenging part of open surgical repair of extensive thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA). For more efficient reconstruction of these branching vessels, a technique of using pre-hand-sewn multi-branched aortic graft (octopod technique) has been adopted with the aid of 3D-printing-guidance in latest cases. The octopod graft has been employed for the extent II or III TAAA repair, in which the commercially available two 4-branched aorti...

Open versus endovascular repair for extracranial carotid aneurysms
ExtraCranial Carotid artery Aneurysms (ECCAs) are rare, although they are associated with a high stroke and mortality risk if untreated. This review aims to compare major outcomes between open and endovascular repair of ECCAs.

Endovascular Treatment of Post Type A Chronic Aortic Arch Dissection With a Branched Endograft: Early Results From a Retrospective International Multicenter Study
Conclusions: Endovascular treatment of aortic arch chronic dissections with a branched endograft is associated with low mortality and stroke rates but has a high reintervention rate. Further follow-up is required to confirm the benefits of this novel approach.

Timing and Outcome of Endovascular Repair for Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Dissection
CONCLUSION: The present study indicates that TEVAR for high risk uTBAD in the acute phase was associated with a trend toward higher rates of early complications, while the long term outcomes were comparable with those of the subacute phase.PMID:33846073 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.02.026
