Analysis of echocardiographic parameters of cardiac function in patients with acute stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: One quarter of patients in the acute phase of stroke have LVSD and/or LVDD. LVSD adversely affects both neurological status in acute stroke as well as functional status in the short-term follow-up. Age at first-in-life stroke incidence and lower EF are predictors of poor functional status one month after a stroke. PMID: 30855702 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk factor profile in patients with stroke at a young age.
Conclusions Angiopathy is the most common risk factor for stroke at a young age. More than half of the patients with stroke at a young age have at least two independent risk factors for stroke. In the first two decades of life, the most frequent risk factors for stroke are heart diseases; arterial diseases play a dominant role in the consecutive three decades. The impact of anemia on the course and short-term prognosis in patients with first ever ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Mild anemia did not influence significantly the neurological condition in acute phase of stroke but worsened the functional status in subacute phase of stroke. The neurological state on the first day of stroke and the hemispheric location of cerebral ischemia are independent factors of poor prognosis in patients with anemia in short-term follow-up. Characteristics of hospitalizations due to acute stroke in the Silesian Province, Poland, between 2009 and 2015.
CONCLUSIONS: This comprehensive long-term analysis of the epidemiological situation related to AS in the industrial region of Poland should encourage further development of educational and treatment programmes for improvement in the health status of the population. Relevance of admission hyperglycaemia and diabetes mellitus to efficacy and safety of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients
CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes mellitus has a neutral effect on the angiographic and clinical outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients. It does not increase the risk of intracranial haemorrhage after instrumental therapy. It is admission hyperglycaemia, rather than diabetes mellitus, that is a predictor of poor functional status in patients treated with thrombectomy. According to our results, the patient's neurological status, age, and the outcome of thrombectomy are relevant to the functional status in the acute ischaemic stroke period.PMID:36394219 | DOI:10.5603/PJNNS.a2022.0063

Diagnostics, treatment and secondary prevention of ischemic stroke in the Silesian Province, Poland between 2009 and 2015.
CONCLUSIONS: There has been observed a significant improvement in the quality of diagnosis and treatment of acute ischemic stroke during recent years. However, further actions are required both in terms of reperfusion treatment (thrombolysis and/or thrombectomy) and secondary prevention of stroke. PMID: 29198761 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Epidemiological analysis of hospitalisations due to recurrent stroke in the Silesian Province, Poland, between 2009 and 2015.
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first such comprehensive and long-term analysis of recurrent stroke in Silesia, Poland. It could help in the implementation of appropriate educational programmes, and thus help to improve the health status of society. PMID: 31441494 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Complex interventional treatment in a patient with atrial fibrillation and stroke caused by large carotid artery thrombus: a case report
Conclusion: Emergency carotid embolectomy together with thrombectomy and local thrombolytic rt-PA treatment may be a reasonable rescue therapy for carefully selected patients with large-vessel acute stroke. Further research is needed to establish the advantages and safety of surgical thrombectomy in patients with acute embolic occlusion of the carotid artery and ineffectiveness of or contraindications for systemic thrombolytic treatment.

Cerebral microembolism in patients with segmental left ventricular wall motion abnormalities.
CONCLUSIONS: Embolic signals in the middle cerebral artery in patients with segmental left ventricular hypokinesis have to be considered as a risk factor of stroke. The following changes are observed in patients with cardiogenic stroke: hypokinetic intraventricular septum, high intensity embolic signals, increased serum fibrinogen levels and leucocyte count. It may indicate the importance of these factors in the aetiology of stroke. PMID: 24821634 [PubMed - in process]
