Prognostic value of hemodynamics following treatment initiation in pulmonary arterial hypertension
Conclusions: Stroke volume index and right atrial pressure at first follow-up catheterization were the best hemodynamic predictors of death or transplantation. These variables should be further validated as treatment targets in a prospective study.

Left ventricular assist device exchange for the treatment of HeartMate II pump thrombosis.
Conclusions: It is generally feasible to treat pump thrombosis via LVAD exchange. Yet, the exchange procedure is not without risk and the risk of re-thrombosis (34%), stroke (29%), postoperative dialysis (29%) and perioperative complications remains high. PMID: 30034845 [PubMed]

Prognostic factors for mortality, intensive care unit and hospital admission due to SARS-CoV-2: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies in Europe
Background As mortality from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is strongly age-dependent, we aimed to identify population subgroups at an elevated risk for adverse outcomes from COVID-19 using age-/gender-adjusted data from European cohort studies with the aim to identify populations that could potentially benefit from booster vaccinations. Methods We performed a systematic literature review and meta-analysis to investigate the role of underlying medical conditions as prognostic factors for adverse outcomes due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), including death, hospitalisation, intensive c...

Prognostic relevance of pulmonary arterial compliance in patients with chronic heart failure.
CONCLUSIONS Pulmonary arterial compliance is a strong prognostic indicator in CHF patients with sLVD; most importantly, its prognostic role is retained in patients with normal pulmonary vascular resistance. PMID: 24356904 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Changes in right heart haemodynamics and echocardiographic function in an advanced phenotype of pulmonary hypertension and right heart dysfunction associated with pulmonary fibrosis
Conclusions PH-targeted therapy may improve right heart haemodynamics and echocardiographic function without affecting systemic oxygen saturation in an advanced PH phenotype associated with RV dysfunction in the setting of PF.

Hemodynamic effects of different vasodilators in patients with type II pulmonary hypertension (PH)
Conclusions. Inhaled Iloprost causes favorable changes in preload and afterload of the impaired LV and increases its performance in patients with PH associated with LV systolic dysfunction.

Pediatric ventricular assist devices.
Authors: Adachi I, Burki S, Zafar F, Morales DL Abstract The domain of pediatric ventricular assist device (VAD) has recently gained considerable attention. Despite the fact that, historically, the practice of pediatric mechanical circulatory support (MCS) has lagged behind that of adult patients, this gap between the two groups is narrowing. Currently, the Berlin EXCOR VAD is the only pediatric-specific durable VAD approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The prospective Berlin Heart trial demonstrated a successful outcome, either bridge to transplantation (BTT), or in rare instances, bridge to reco...

Clinical outcomes in overweight heart transplant recipients
Conclusions Overweight HT patients had better survival, but more rejections, CAV, and diabetes. Non-overweight HT patients had worse survival, plus more re-hospitalization time, lymphoma, and renal dysfunction.

Mortality, rehospitalization, and post-transplant complications in gender-mismatched heart transplant recipients
Conclusion Female HT recipients with male donors had worse 3-year outcomes as compared to male-mismatch and no-mismatch groups.

Clinical and hemodynamic correlates of pulmonary arterial stiffness in incident, untreated patients with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS: In incident idiopathic PAH, PA stiffness was related to mPAP and heart rate, and this outperformed the potential influences of age and gender. Baseline PA stiffness did not independently predict outcome. The great dispersion of RC-time implied that PVR and PA stiffness were differently affected by the disease process. The value of Stanford integrated psychosocial assessment for transplantation (SIPAT) in prediction of clinical outcomes following left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation
ConclusionIn this single-center retrospective study, SIPAT did not predict cumulative re-admissions. Further study is required to validate SIPAT before clinical implementation.

Haemodynamics and serial risk assessment in systemic sclerosis associated pulmonary arterial hypertension
The prognostic importance of follow-up haemodynamics and the validity of multidimensional risk assessment are not well established for systemic sclerosis (SSc)-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). We assessed incident SSc-PAH patients to determine the association between clinical and haemodynamic variables at baseline and first follow-up right heart catheterisation (RHC) with transplant-free survival. RHC variables included cardiac index, stroke volume index (SVI), pulmonary arterial compliance and pulmonary vascular resistance. Risk assessment was performed according to the number of low-risk criteria: functi...

Late Breaking Abstract - FACE: Cluster phenotyping predicting outcomes in a prospective multicenter cohort study of chronic heart failure (CHF) patients with central sleep disorder breathing (SDB) indicated for adaptive servo ventilation (ASV)
Discussion: A phenogroup analysis including cardiac functions, SDB and ASV acceptance is promising in predicting outcomes of CHF patients.
