A Ruptured Cystic Echinococcosis in the Gallbladder and Intra/Extrahepatic Biliary Tract, Radiological and Surgical Imaging Findings
Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2023 Sep 18;47(3):200-203. doi: 10.4274/tpd.galenos.2023.65265.ABSTRACTCystic echinococcosis is a common parasitic infestation that can still cause serious complications in endemic areas. Intrabiliary rupture is a well-defined complication, but rupture into the gallbladder is rare. The disease may present with cholecystitis and cholangitis. Clinicians and radiologists working in the emergency room will find the management of the disease much easier if they become familiar with the clinical and radiological findings of the cyst. In this article, a 28-year-old male admitted to the emergency department...

Worm globalization
We report the first case of eosinophilic pleural effusion due to Anisakis spp. infection in a 39-years-old European subject hospitalized for worsening dyspnoea and abdominal and thoracic pain. Lung CT scan showed bilateral pleural effusion; thoracentesis revealed significant eosinophilia (45%), with normal eosinophils in the blood. Microbiological tests on pleural effusion were negative for bacteria, SARS-CoV-2, tuberculosis, fungi and parasites. The patient used to eat raw fish; Western blot was positive for Anisakis spp. in blood and pleural effusion. In the era of globalization, unusual parasitic infections should be co...

Acute abdomen due to rupture of a hydatid cyst of the liver: a rare complication - a case report
CONCLUSIONS: A patient from an endemic region with acute presentation of right upper quadrant pain can have spontaneously ruptured hydatidosis as a differential diagnosis. Intraperitoneal rupture and dissemination of hydatid cysts of the liver can be life-threatening if intervention is delayed. Immediate surgery is life-saving and prevents complications.PMID:37113932 | PMC:PMC10129216 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000383
