High Prevalence of Occult Hepatitis B Virus Infection among Iranian Hemodialysis Patients
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Mar 13:tpmd220345. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.22-0345. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConsidering the potential risks associated with occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, this study was designed to investigate the magnitude and genotypic pattern of occult HBV infection among hemodialysis patients. All patients on regular hemodialysis attending the dialysis centers located in southern Iran and 277 nonhemodialysis controls were invited to participate in this study. Serum samples were tested for detection of hepatitis B core antibody (HBcAb) and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) by competitive enzyme imm...

The world prevalence, associated risk factors and mortality of hepatitis C virus infection in hemodialysis patients: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: HCV infection among hemodialysis patients is a worldwide shared burden and is associated with a higher risk of death. Avoiding unnecessary blood transfusion and dialyzer reuse should be encouraged to prevent HCV transmission in hemodialysis units.PMID:36383211 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-022-01483-x

Safety and effectiveness of direct-acting antivirals in patients with chronic hepatitis C and chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSIONS: DAAs shows comparable SVR12 and safety in CKD patients (stage 3, 4, and 5) with HCV compared with patients with stage 1 and 2. The effectiveness and safety of DAAs may be related to the treatment duration. Therefore, it is important to select adequate regimens of DAAs and to increase treatment adherence.PMID:35981893 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2021.486
